VII. Maj13 and 13 Chords (32:02 – 34:12) In terms of the key of C major, Maj13 and 13 chords have an extra A an octave higher:
C 1
D 2
E 3
F 4
G 5
A 6
B 7
C 8
D E F G A B C 9 10 11 12 13 14 15
TIP: To remember which notes go into a chord with a 9th, 11th or 13th, we can use a little math. You only have to subtract 7 to the extension. For example, we know that 9 – 7 = 2. Since D is the second note (2) in the key of C, we know that the 9th note in the key of C is a D. With the same method, we know that the 11th is an F (4th) and a 13th is an A (6th).
