The dirt on gardens in Brandermill Growing your own vegetables and fruits is a job many undertake with great joy. Finding the right place for a garden in Brandermill can sometimes be a challenge. Our beautiful canopy of trees can inhibit essential sunshine, however, residents do have options. Residents who prefer to have that garden at their homes should be aware of major changes to the Residential Design Standards since the 2014 planting season. The major change relates to large gardens (greater than 60 sq. feet) and front and side gardens. If you are contemplating either of these two types of gardens, an Architecture Review Board (ARB) application is necessary and requires a planting plan to be submitted for approval prior to installing the garden. Property owners desiring a vegetable garden that does not meet the conditions described herein should consider renting a plot at Heritage Farms located off of Old Hundred Road. Plots become available on March 2. Gardeners can choose between a 10x20 plot that rents yearly for $28 or a 10x10 plot for $22. Water and plenty of sunshine are available at Heritage Farms to keep plants thriving. Rental information can be obtained by emailing Donna Allen at [email protected].
