I recently made a tulip skirt pattern from my pencil skirt block. It was a lot easier than you would think, so I thought others may benefit. Larger pictures can be found on my blog Step 1

Trace the front piece of your skirt pattern onto some pattern paper Step 2

2S Measure 1 inch from the side seam at the hemline. Draw a line from this to the widest part of the skirt. Cut away excess Step 3

Draw 3 slash lines on the pattern as shown. Cut from the waist to the side seam along the slash lines, but do not cut all the way through the side seam Step 4

3S Spread your pattern at the waistline, leaving 2-3 inches of space between each slashed piece Step 5

Tape your slashed pattern to some pattern paper, so that the gaps from slashing are covered. Mark your pleats Step 6

4S Fold the pleats and true the waist edge to ensure correct seams for the pleats Step 7

Trace the back pattern piece onto some pattern paper. Mark 1 inch in from the side seam at the hem line. Draw a line from this mark to the widest part of the skirt. Cut away excess Step 8

And now you have a tulip skirt pattern! Large pictures can be found on my blog
