In the interview you just listened to, there was a brief story Charles referenced (~37:00 minutes in). He spoke about a very successful oncologist who repeated a mantra before he had to grade his student’s papers. In essence, he ties the monotonous task of grading papers to collecting students tuition dollars which, in turn, can fund his cancer research which, in turn, will allow him to save people’s lives. Repeating his personal mantra helps this highly successful doctor find the motivation to do something that he dreads doing. (Sound familiar?) But this isn’t a stand alone event. There are countless stories of world-class athletes, prominent CEO’s, even Navy SEALs who spend time reinforcing their mindset with positive self-talk. If leaders in their respective fields need to use simple life hacks like this to become successful, why don’t you?
