here are many reasons to love chalk paint. It's a fast way to to refresh furniture, because there's no sanding, stripping, or priming. It's easy to make and affordable. And it gives an opaque, matte finish that is soft and on-trend. It works on many surfaces including wood, metal, and glass. Using chalk paint mixtures of two Valspar Signature colors—LaFonda Ortiz Gold (#3004-5A) as the base coat and City Chic (#CI 51) as the top coat—a handme-down coffee table gets new life. Distressing on the legs, curves, and edges gives a worn look perfect for this furniture style. (See page 11 for the easy chalk paint recipe).
Paint Tip YOU CAN DISTRESS PIECES BY RUBBING EDGES WITH FINE-GRIT SANDPAPER, SANDING SPONGES, STEEL WOOL, OR DISH SCRUBBERS. ALL PRODUCE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT RESULTS.
BRUSH STROKES This dresser was painted with a chalk paint recipe using City Chic. When dry, the drawer fronts were painted with Light Avocado (#CI 47), using a drier brush and lighter stroke so the base color shows. The three mirrors use combos of the chalk paint recipes of Light Avocado, City Chic, and Bermuda Sand (#7002-10). The tray is Grandma's Cherry Pie (#CI 106). All colors are mixtures based on Valspar Signature paints.
Paint Tip TO GET VISIBLE BRUSH STROKES, USE LIGHTER PRESSURE AND A DRIER BRUSH. DAB THE BRUSH ON A RAG AS YOU PAINT.
INSIDE COLOR Painting the inside of this cabinet a different color (Retro Green #CI 28) than the outside (Grandma’s Cherry Pie, brushed with Light Avocado) adds personality to the room. The box and tray are painted in Skyscape (#4007-10A). All colors are mixtures based on Valspar Signature paint.
