This wreath lets your team spirit shine! You’ll find lots of ribbon and trim options that will work for team wreaths. Just look for the right colors (choose 2 or 3) and be creative. We found the perfect orange and white dotted and striped ribbons, but not in a wire-edged style. So we layered those ribbons with a wire-edged sheer white ribbon to make the loops stand proud.
You’ll need: 16" dia. wire wreath frame F 10 yard roll 21" wide deco mesh F 6 yards 51/2" wide deco mesh ribbon F 4 yards each of two 11/2" wide ribbons F 8 yards 2" wide wire-edged ribbon F matching chenille stems F 3 painted football shapes F assorted letters for message F acrylic paint F spray adhesive and glitter F hot glue gun F

Add 15 Single Loops with the layered 11/2" and 2" wide ribbons. Paint and glitter the letters as desired. Hot glue the letters and footballs to the wreath.

General
Instructions
The photos show contrasting colors for clarity.
MAKING THE BASIC WREATH To make the basic deco mesh wreath, you’ll need a wire wreath frame, a 10 yard roll of 21" wide mesh, matching color chenille stems, and a pair of scissors (photo 1).
1
30
Twist 22 chenille stems around the wreath frame, alternating between the inner and outer rings and evenly spacing the stems on the rings (photo 2).
2

L5834_Body2.indd 30
2/1/12 11:21 AM
To make measuring easier, mark the work surface with tape pieces 16" apart. Gather the mesh end (photo 3).
3
Place the gathered end over a chenille stem. Twist the stem to secure (photo 4).
4
gather straight up & down

Measure 16" from the secured area and gather, keeping the gathers as straight as possible (photos 5-6).

7
Place the gathered area over the next chenille stem. Twist the stem to secure (photo 7).
8 Continue measuring, gathering, and securing loops until there are only 6 chenille stems without mesh loops (photo 8). Check to make sure you have enough mesh for the remaining 6 loops. If there is not enough for 16" loops, adjust the last 6 loops to be a bit smaller. Once the wreath is finished, you won’t be able to tell the difference.
9
Here’s the finished basic deco mesh wreath (photo 9). Fluff and arrange the loops until the wreath is circular and has a pretty shape.

2/1/12 11:21 AM
10 ADDING THE SECOND LAYER Lots of different decorative elements can be used for the second layer. Our wreaths have wire-edged ribbon, garland, wired garlands, and even a feather boa. Long, continuous length items work best, but shorter items, such as Hawaiian leis will also work (photo 10).
11
Arrange the second layer, poking it in amongst the mesh loops (photo 11). Smooth curves look the best.
12 Secure the layer to the wreath with the nearest chenille stem (photo 12). If it’s a bit long, just trim any excess. If it’s a bit short, that’s okay; just cover the small gap with a bow or other decorative item.

MAKING SINGLE & DOUBLE LOOPS
13
Loops are an excellent accent to the mesh wreath. Wire-edged ribbon, 51/2"w deco mesh, skinny garland, and deco flex tubing make beautiful loops (photo 13). To make the first loop, gather the ends, measure the loop size (16"), and gather (photo 14). Bring the gathers together (photo 15). If you are making a single loop, secure the loop with a chenille stem and trim from the roll.
14
15
16"
16
For a double loop, repeat the measuring and gathering to make the second loop. Trim the loops from the roll. Secure both loops with a chenille stem (photo 16). Attach the loop to the wreath by twisting the loop stem to a wreath stem (photo 17). 34
www.leisurearts.com
L5834_Body2.indd 34
17
Double loops can be varied for different looks. You can leave 24" long tails on the ends or the mesh ends can be frayed for a spooky look. Try using a wired glittery roping for the loops, as shown on the Spring Wreath, page 4. For real visual impact, measure out 4 loops before trimming and securing with a chenille stem (like the tubing shown on the Birthday Wreath, page 22). Tubing ends also look great knotted.
2/1/12 11:21 AM
MAKING A GIANT DECO MESH BOW To make a giant deco mesh bow, fold the mesh in half. Leaving an 18" tail, gather the mesh end. Measure the loop size (16") and gather the mesh (photos 18-19).

Repeat to make the second loop. Secure both loops with a chenille stem. Trim the bow from the mesh roll, leaving an 18" tail (photo 21). Attach the loop to the wreath by twisting the loop stem to a wreath stem.
35

22 MAKING TULLE ACCENTS Stack 10 layers of 6" x 12" pieces of tulle (photo 22).
23 Gather the tulle stack in the center. Secure with a chenille stem (photo 23). Attach the accent to the wreath by twisting the loop stem to a wreath stem.
24 MAKING ROLLED LOOPS Roll a 16" long piece of 10" wide mesh ribbon. Secure the roll with a chenille stem (photos 24-25). Attach the loop to the wreath by twisting the loop stem to a wreath stem.

26 ATTACHING A FOAM BASE Attaching a foam base to the mesh wreath makes adding floral elements, such as flower stems and picks much easier. Use a serrated-edge knife to cut a 5" foam ball or cube in half (photo 26).
27 Twist 4 chenille stems together for 1". Poke a hole in the center of the foam ball half and insert the twisted stem end. Nestle the foam ball half between 2 mesh loops and securely wrap the stems around the wreath frame (photo 27).
28 Insert greenery, floral, or other stemmed items into the foam (photo 28).

29 MAKING A RIBBON BOW Wire-edged ribbon comes in many sizes, colors, and styles. Your wreath will look great with 1 or 2 ribbon bows; look for ribbons that coordinate, but are different sizes and have different patterns or colors (photo 29). When stacking bows, make and attach each bow separately.
30 The width of the ribbon and your preference determine the size of the bow (photo 30). Ribbons about 11/2" wide look good with 6" long loops; measure out 12" for each loop. Wider ribbons, such as 21/2"–3" wide, look good with 7" long loops; measure out 14" for each loop. 11/2"

Twist the ribbon to the right side for the next loop (photo 33). Measure out 12" and gather (photo 34). Bring the gathers together for the second loop.
33
Continue to make loops until the bow has 4-8 loops. Try not to let the loops stack on top of one another. They should be in a circular shape (photo 36). Trim the ribbon, leaving a 24" tail.

L5834_Body2.indd 39
Wrap an 18-gauge wire length around the bow and tighten (photo 37). Wrap a chenille stem over the wire (photo 38) and attach to a stem on the wreath. Fluff and arrange the loops and streamers.
39
2/1/12 11:21 AM
39
ADDITIONAL TIPS To make a longer chenille stem, just twist the ends together for 1"-2" (photo 39).
40 To make a floral bouquet, gather the stems and securely wrap with 18-gauge wire. Use chenille stems to cover the wire and to secure the bouquet to the wreath frame (photo 40).
41 When adding a decorative item to the wreath, try to use the existing hanger. On the Halloween bats, we wrapped a chenille stem around the wire hangers (photo 41).
42
43
For an item that doesn’t have a hanger, wrap a coordinating color chenille stem around the item to secure it to the wreath frame. We used pink chenille stems around the doll’s neck and the bottle top to secure them to the wreath (photo 42).
Clip the stems from individual flowers (photo 43); then, hot glue the flower to the mesh wreath. It’s a good idea to use shatter-proof ornaments on the wreath.
