Mammoth Lakes Recreation Commission Staff Report EXHIBIT C
Park in a Cart Portable Skatepark (Skate/Bike/Scooter Ramps) This equipment supports the rapid growth of our Wave Rave Concrete Kommando Skate Camps and the operational plan to transition the Mammoth RecZone into the hub for all department summer camps and programs. Last year alone skate camps grew by 37%, and since 2010 these camps have increased participation by a staggering 539% (18 to 115). The department also recognizes the growth of skate and summer camps due to the acceptance and growth of the MiNi Camps (3-5 year olds). This product would provide enhanced programming for all summer camps users (639+) at the RecZone, provide progressive features for instruction for lower level skaters along with much needed animation for facility rentals, groups and birthday parties. The department previously utilized a donated skate ramp, however, the ramp deteriorated so much it was not safe for use and posed problems for winter storage due to its weight and size. This product stored on a cart is ideal for this facility and for the future multi-use facility at Mammoth Creek Park. The Park in a Cart Portable Skatepark was designed for municipality skate programs. The products provide obstacles that can fold down quickly, and roll in a small closet (fits through a 36" door, and is 60” long). Los Angeles County uses 32 Skatepark in a Cart setups for its Summer Night Light Programs at 32 Locations. Star Education uses Freshpark mobile Skateparks in San Diego County, Los Angeles county, and New York City. STAR has been recognized as a "model program" by the White House and the U.S. Department of Education and received the Fête D'Excellence Award in association with the United Nations, as well as NBC's Unsung Heroes Award. The Park in a Cart Portable Skatepark can entertain anywhere from 1 to 20 skaters at one time. Any of the layouts can be assembled in 15 minutes by one operator. Park on a Cart Includes: 2 – Quarter pipes, 6 – Fun Box / Manual Pads, 2 – Launch Ramps, 2 – Grind Rails, 2 – Safety Rail, 2 – Fun Box / Manual Pad Extension Legs, 1 – Rolling 2500lb Capacity Cart, and 1 – Leg and Hardware Storage Bin. Cost plus shipping and tax is approximately $5,650. Staff is also investigating the possibility of including a Garage Mini Ramp Halfpipe in this application. The smaller halfpipe is only 26” high, 8’ wide and 16’ long. Cost plus tax is approximately $1,800.
