We had 8 Mustang games rained out. 2 of the 8 games have already been played and the balance are scheduled (with the help of Brandon Hill). Rescheduling to April 12 (first day of Spring Break) has proven to be less than ideal - as many teams are reporting lack of players (less than 8). I’ve already moved one of those games to another day and reviewing with other managers their player availability.

Someone busted one of the locks at the Mustang field at Sequoia, which prevented a lot of free movement in and around that field. Buckley mentioned that we may have combo locks there in the near future (but have not heard anything else about that). There was one report that Mustang parents were illegally parking around the field at Sequoia. I went to two games and only saw vehicles with handicap placards parked on the street. Based on how full the Sequoia parking lots are, the message has resonated with this group of parents and coaches D. Pinto: Brian reported that they added a 9th national team with 9 players. Pinto has started kid-pitch from the first game (2 innings). It seems to be working, and the teams are ready to go to 3 innings next Monday. Josh added that there has been positive feedback from parents and managers. Brian also reported ¼ of the rainout games have been played, the rest have been rescheduled.

N EWBURY P ARK P ONY B ASEBALL Board M eeting M inutes – M ar 19, 2014E. Shetland: John reported that a third pitching machine is broken due to possible mishandling by managers/coaches. Marty has been piecemealing the machines when broken, but we may need to buy a new machine. Steve K. suggested sending out a You Tube tutorial on how to handle the machines. Also, to have instructions with illustrations posted on the machines or somewhere accessible. Wendy also spoke about issues with times of games running long due to the use of the pitching machine. Some of the Shetland games are going 2 hours. It was suggested that we have a drop-dead time for Shetland games. 6.
ADVISORY REPORTS: A. Field Permit: Tracey reported for Kevin L. that during spring break, 4/14-4/19, we will not have field permits or lights on any field after 7:15pm. Please pass it on to your managers. B. Sponsorship: Kevin W. reported sponsorship has brought in $21,877 to date. There are 6 returning HR sponsors, and 12 new HR sponsors. Dr. Rosenthal with Whole Health Medical Solutions is our league sponsor. We have an Islands Restaurant Night scheduled for April 9th. Kevin will contact past HR sponsors who are not sponsors this year since we already have their banners. He will let sponsors know about upcoming tournaments so they can put booths up. C. Opening Night: Josh reported that everything went well. Snack shack did well also, and it was a great community-building event. Josh received lots of good feedback. D. Field Prep: Jason B. sent out guidelines for field prep to managers to distribute with their teams.
7.
OLD BUSINESS: A. Sequoia Traffic: Traffic has been better because there is only one gate open at Sequoia. Jason B. is discussing with Sequoia about the use of deadlocks.
8.
NEW BUSINESS: A. Dos Vientos Trash: Josh received a letter from a Dos Vientos resident about the trash problem after the Saturday games. Brandon added that he witnessed it last weekend, and can confirm the trash issue. Josh will look into putting it on the permit to have CRPD empty the trash bins before they close up for the night. B. “Playing for a Cause”: Josh shared that a few kids on his team had asked about playing for a cause. Players can wear wristbands, socks, laces, etc. to raise awareness of certain topics (i.e. April – Autism Awareness, NephCure, etc.). This can be discussed more over email. C. Umpire Training: Alan shared concerns that some umpires may not be properly trained, citing a specific Pinto game. Brandon explained that they have upgraded the umpire training this year. Umpires were required to complete a minimum of 4 classroom sessions and a full day of in-the-field training. Umpires usually start in Pinto and must complete a certain number of games before moving to the next level. Brandon asked that any feedback on umpires be sent to him or Neil, and they can handle on an individual basis. D. Pony Division Bats: Steve K. shared concerns about the use of composite bats in Pony for 2 reasons: 1. Safety – the energy that comes off composite bats are so loaded that it could be potentially dangerous, 2. Training – it does not teach the kids how to hit a ball. Steve noted that high school and college rules have changed, and Little League in December also made the transition not to allow them. Steve suggested the use of BB core, wood or aluminum bats only, and if it’s composite, to be BB core certified. Josh will bring up at the next PONY president’s meeting. Brandon will bring up with interleague.
