Headteacher: Mr T. W. Evans B.Ed (hons) 11 January 2017 Dear Parents YEAR 4 VISIT TO THE AIRBUS FOUNDATION DISCOVERY SPACE, STEVENAGE On 8 and 9 February 2017 we would like to take the Year 4 children to the newly opened Airbus Foundation Discovery Space in Stevenage, with 4A visiting on the Wednesday and 4C and 4D visiting on the Thursday. This visit will form an exciting introduction to the States of Matter topic that we will be covering in Science from next half term. We will be leaving school at 9.15 am and returning at approximately 3 pm. All children will therefore require a packed lunch on the day of their trip. The coach will leave promptly so please make sure your child is on time for school on these dates. We are very fortunate that, in celebration of their opening, the Airbus Foundation Discovery Space has offered to cover the cost of our coach travel. The cost of this visit to parents is therefore £5.00, which includes a Science show, a Make and Take activity, access to the exhibits in the Interactive Zone and a visit to the Mars Rover yard. It is not essential for us to visit the Airbus Foundation Discovery Space to achieve the objectives of the National Curriculum. However, the trip will make your child’s learning experience more meaningful and relevant and incorporate that vital element which can be so often missing in education – fun! The school is not in a position to offer such a trip free or subsidise places to any significant extent. In order for this trip to go ahead we are asking for voluntary contributions. No distinction will be made between those who have contributed towards the trip in full and those who have not. Children would not be excluded because their parents choose not to, or are unable to, pay. However, if it is not possible to raise sufficient funds to cover the cost of this activity through voluntary contributions it will not go ahead. We are therefore asking for a voluntary contribution of £5.00. Parents are at liberty to contribute more than this if they wish to help subsidise those that may be unable or unwilling to pay for this activity. We will need to know exact numbers and the total amount of funds available to us by Friday 27 January so that we can decide whether or not this trip goes ahead. This trip must therefore be paid for in full by Friday 27 January.

Should the trip not be viable, all payments will be returned in full. Please complete the slip below and return it to the school. Yours sincerely,

Mrs Budd Year 4 Teacher
