EDC-4 Pavement Preservation (When, Where, and How) Develop MassDOT pavement preservation policy/program (objectives, funding, roles, & treatment scope). Prepare & issue PP Communication Plan. Explore dedicated CIP/STIP funding item for PP treatments. Assist & inform in updating Healthy Transportation Policy (HTP) criteria applicable to PP treatment projects. Identify at least 5 candidate 2019 PP projects in Districts. Engage Local Agencies on use of PP as “whole-life” investment and standard business practice.

Project Duration – 300 DAYS
Pavement, Bridge Decks & Water Quality Office Estimate = $5.6M Low Bid $6.9M • UTBO, Fog Seal, Striping, Etc. = $3.4M • Stormwater/Environmental = $1.4M • Bridge Deck Preservation = $740K • “Maintenance” (Clearing/Grubbing, Tree Trimming, Drain/pipe cleaning) = $300K • Traffic Control = $1.1M
Why? 10-12 Days UTBO Paving Mainline 20-25? Days Fog Sealing 10-15? Days Striping 30-40? Days Bridge Paving
Project Duration = 300 DAYS Traffic Control Item $2500/day
Bids higher than expected Project duration and extensive stormwater likely contributed to higher costs.
