Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn Programs In order to understand our Mathnasium Programs, we need to define some of the terminology we use at Mathnasium.
Definitions Mathnasium Hour This can be tailored depending on the student’s particular needs in math. The standard Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn hour has the student working on their individualized learning plan (Prescriptives) for approximately the first thirty (30) minutes. The second half of the session is typically utilized in one of two ways. The most frequent option would be to utilize the rest of the session working on their Workout Book. Another option would be to allow the student to work on their Workout Book and then either school related Mathnasium worksheets or assisting the student to understand their homework/school class work. At approximately the middle of the hour the student is offered a five (5) minute game break (if not taken, they receive an additional punch on the Mathnasium Punch Card).
Prescriptives (Pks) These address any math concepts that were shown deficient from the results of the student’s assessment. It focuses on the areas that need to be improved upon and doesn’t cover concepts the student has already mastered at the time of the assessment. This is the individualized learning plan based on the student’s current math concept knowledge.
Workout Books (WoB) This develops problem solving and mathematical thinking skills. WOBs are development-dependent. The benefit of WOBs is they help students to develop Number Sense, mathematical thinking, and problem solving across a wide variety of topics. One of the key attributes of the WOBs is that the problems can be solved with simple arithmetic and logic, i.e. Number Sense, rather than by using algorithms. This allows students to engage in the long-term process of mathematical thinking long before the algorithms are introduced at school. It also allows students to become good mathematical thinkers, without becoming dependent on algorithms.
Homework Help This allows the student to work on school related materials (homework, test prep, etc). The student can bring in math homework or school work that they need help with understanding the math concepts. This is not intended to be used as a “study hall” period where they just “do” their homework. It is intended to ensure they understand how to do the homework, understand the concepts within the homework. The instructor will work with the student but there is no guarantee that the homework will be completed during this time. There is also no guarantee that the homework will be 100% correct. This time can also be used to do Mathnasium material related to the concepts they have worked on, are working on or will be working on in school. This does NOT mean that we will keep pace with what they are working on at school.
Last Punch of the Day This is a form filled out by the student and possibly with assistance from the instructor (depending on the age of the student). This serves two purposes: a communication method back to the parents and a student selfevaluation. The students fill out the self-evaluation form where they list what they worked on during their session, what they 'got' during their session, and what they need to continue to practice on.
Session This is a one-hour (60 minutes) appointment that the student is scheduled for their particular Mathnasium program. The only exceptions to the duration of a session would be for the “Personal Training” membership. Each session is scheduled for one (1) hour. If coming late to a session, the remaining time will be utilized for that particular session. If coming early to a session, in most cases the student will need to wait for their particular session start time. 712 E Roosevelt Rd | Glen Ellyn IL 60137 | http://www.mathnasium.com/glenellyn | 630-469-MATH | E:

Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn Programs Power Math Program This is our standard Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn program. We believe this is the best fit for the majority of students. This serves students who are already ahead in math, trying to keep up or working hard to catch up in math. The student will receive their own individualized Learning Plan based off of their performance on an assessment. Instruction is done at an instructor lead table. It allows for up to two (2) sessions (Mathnasium Hour) a week or Up to eight (8) sessions (Mathnasium hour) a month. We do provide an additional two (2) bonus sessions per month. However, the price of this program is based off of Up to eight (8) sessions a month. Attendance Frequency: Up to twice (2) a week or Up to eight (8) times a month Session Length: Mathnasium Hour Instruction environment: 3 to 1 (Student to Instructor ratio at an instruction table)
Flexible Program This is our standard Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn program with additional flexibility. This is the same as the Power Math Program but it allows for unlimited attendance in a month. The student can attend once a day every day we are open as long as there are sessions available. The student will receive their own individualized Learning Plan based off of their performance on an assessment. Instruction is done at an instructor lead table. It allows for unlimited sessions (Mathnasium Hour) a month. Attendance Frequency: Unlimited scheduled sessions, once per day when the center is open Session Length: Mathnasium Hour Instruction environment: 3 to 1 (Student to Instructor ratio at an instruction table)
High School Homework Help Session Packs Program The target audience is primarily high school or college students. This allows a student to bring in their homework or test prep information to ask questions and get help to understand the math concepts being worked at school. Mathnasium does NOT do an assessment and does NOT provide any Mathnasium material. This is the student asking questions on their math concepts and the instructor explaining the concepts. Attendance Frequency: Various session packages available Session Length: 60 minutes Instruction environment: 3 to 1 (Student to Instructor ratio at an instruction table)
High School Homework Help Monthly Membership Program The target audience is primarily high school or college students. This allows a student to bring in their homework or test prep information to ask questions and get help to understand the math concepts being worked at school. Mathnasium of Glen Ellyn Programs Personal Training Program The target audience is primarily high school or college students. This allows a student to bring in their homework or test prep information to ask questions and get help to understand the math concepts being worked at school. Mathnasium does NOT do an assessment and does NOT provide any Mathnasium material. This is the student asking questions on their math concepts and the instructor explaining the concepts. Attendance Frequency: Various session packages available Session Length: 60 minutes Instruction environment: 1 to 1 (This is a one to one personal tutoring at an instruction table)
