U-9 Development Philosophy •

US Soccer Coaching Curriculum – base –

Players will have the ability to control and manipulate a soccer ball

Develop develop the player’s “touch,” performing complex/dynamic moves, foot‐skills, and foot movements as well as improving their overall balance, coordination and foot‐speed.

Work on going around defenders, feigning to make the defender off‐balanced and to accelerate into the big space.

Dribbling, Passing, Shooting, Receiving techniques

We teach the game as a WHOLE. (just in smaller numbers)

1v1, 1v2, 2v1, 2v2, 4v4, 6v6, 7v7

Small sided tactics. However – emphasis on individual player development.

U-9 Development Philosophy –

Work on playing out of pressure (with a defender on their backs), shielding the ball, receiving and turning, finishing, as well as basic defending principals.

Positions and shape, and will also be encouraged to find space on the field, rotate and find new space on the field or adjust as play develops, and be fearless and creative going 1v1.

Fundamentals and ideas of soccer, that will be the foundation for the remaining years.

Goalkeepers rotate (we do not train goalkeepers at this age)

U-9/U-12 Foundation •

All U-9/U-12 teams follow the same plan

Transition from coach to coach and age group to age group is smooth as the same principles of training are used across all teams
