McWilliam’s 1913 series Touriga 2016 Varietal: Touriga Vineyard Region: Riverina, New South Wales, Australia Vintage conditions: Warm and dry conditions were present for the majority of the growing season meaning that fruit reach maturity with minimal disease pressure. Fruit was picked in ideal conditions with low yields and exceptional fruit quality. This parcel of Touriga Nacional was picked from an old vine block situated on our Hanwood Estate known as Farm 130 Block 13. Colour: Youthful crimson red. Aroma: Vibrant red cherries and fresh violet fruits leap out of the glass creating an alluringly aromatic wine. Palate: Juicy berry fruits dominate, giving great freshness and a supple almost Pinot-like mid palate. The finish is savoury and long with round tannins making it a lovely medium bodied wine that will partner beautifully with many cuisines. Vinification and maturation: Harvested in the cool of the morning to retain the gentle aromatics of the variety, the fruit was carefully de-stemmed and cold soaked for three days. Parcels were naturally warmed, fermented and plunged over up to three times daily for eight days. The wine was then pressed and settled into old French oak barrels, selected to allow a gentle softening. Matured in barrel for 15 months with minimal rackings, the resulting wine is a vibrant supple red wine showing great purity of fruit with fine savoury tannins that will pair fantastically with most cuisines.
