SUN DEVIL REWIND
The Devils spent their first weekend back home in Tempe in nearly two weeks with a split series with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. ASU outscored the Engineers 5-3 on Friday, while taking a 0-0 game into the final 20 minutes on Saturday. RPI ended up finding the back of the net on a strange play midway through the third period, and the Devils couldn’t rally in a 2-0 loss.
Sophomore goaltender RYLAND PASHOVITZ picked up his first victory of the season on Friday after recording 23 saves. Each Sun Devil goalie – PASHOVITZ, senior ROBERT LEVIN and freshman JOEY DACCORD – has now picked up a victory this season. Redshirt junior WADE MURPHY, freshman TYLER BUSCH and redshirt junior DAVID NORRIS highlighted the weekend on the scoresheet, tallying two points apiece. MURPHY scored one of the Devils’ five goals on Friday against the Engineers, while BUSCH and NORRIS each assisted on two goals. A total of 10 Devils made the scoresheet in Friday’s match-up.
TONIGHT’S MATCH-UP
Colgate travels west to warm winter weather hoping to heat up on the ice as well. The Raiders are currently on a three-game skid with two coming against ECAC Conference foes. The Raiders and the Sun Devils aren’t far apart nationally in goals scored, as Colgate ranks 37th with 37 while ASU sits 41st with 33. The Devils and Raiders only have one common opponent this season: Harvard. ASU fell victim to a hungry Crimson program starting their season a month late, while Colgate met them just a week later in a 1-1 tie. Senior netminder Charlie Finn started that game as he has 11 other times this season, holding a 3-6-3 record with a .907 save percentage and 3.06 goals against average. On the stat sheet, the Raiders are led by sophomore forward Adam Dauda with four goals and seven assists. For the fifth time this season, ASU will face one of the longest tenured head coaches in college hockey history. Colgate’s Don Vaughan enters his 24th season as the bench boss for the Raiders, and holds the record for most wins in program history. During his tenure, he’s led the program to six 20-win seasons, 22 ECAC tournament appearances and three NCAA tournament berths.

CATCHING THEIR BREATH • Friday’s game against Rensselaer Poly began a seven-game stretch against unranked teams. • The Devils started their season playing 12 of their first 13 games against ranked opponents. As of today,
the Sun Devils are scheduled to play 11 ranked teams in their first full NCAA Division I season.

Latvia’s GVIDO JANSONS will also join the Devils in 2017-18. • Through nine games, STRIDSBERG has tallied three goals and an assist from the blue line, while GORODETSKY earned his first collegiate assist against Michigan.

• The fall signing day revealed five new Devils for next season, including the 2nd-ranked player from the
1996 class in defenseman PATRICK KUDLA -- who was drafted by the Arizona Coyotes in the 6th round in 2016. • The Devils also picked up two other top-50 prospects according to NeutralZone in forward TYLER MALTBY (41) and JOHNNY WALKER (45). Defensemen GVIDO JANSONS from Latvia and JACOB WILSON will also join the Devils in 2017-18.
REUNITED & IT FEELS SO GOOD • Thirteen Sun Devils have played with at least one teammate prior to reuniting in Tempe. • Freshmen TYLER BUSCH and RILEY SIMPSON, who came to ASU from Spruce Grove (AJHL), also played
with redshirt sophomore DYLAN HOLLMAN in 2013-14. • Sophomores JACK ROWE and LIAM MCGING shared ice time together with the Muskegon Lumberjacks (USHL) in 2014-15. The two also were paired up on another USHL squad... • The biggest group of them all featured freshman GEORGY GORODETSKY and sophomores RYLAND PASHOVITZ, JACK ROWE, JOE LAPPIN and LIAM MCGING with the Des Moines Buccaneers (USHL) in 2014-15 as well. • The longest tenured pair became teammates again years later, as senior DREW NEWMEYER and graduate senior ROBBIE BAILLARGEON played together from 2011-13 with the Indiana Ice (USHL). • The obvious duo on the roster is brothers BRINSON and STEENN PASICHNUK, who played with the Bonnnyville Pontiacs (AJHL) from 2013-16.

WE’VE GOT THE POWERS Coach Powers enters his ninth overall season on the Sun Devil Coaching Staff
and his second as Head Coach of ASU’s NCAA Division I Hockey program. In his first year as head coach, he led the team to a 10-23-5 in 2015. During the 2013-14 season, Coach Powers helped guide the Sun Devils to their first-ever ACHA Division I National Championship. He holds a 174-50-14 career record at ASU, and his team ended the 2014-2015 season ranked #3 in the ACHA with a 35-4-1 record qualifying for the team’s third-straight ACHA Division I Final Four. Since taking the reigns as head coach, Greg has also coached eight ACHA Div. I All-Americans and 15 ACHA Academic All-Americans. Coach Powers has helped lead Sun Devil Hockey to five consecutive ACHA National Tournament appearances, starting with his first year as head coach in 2010. In 2012-13, he led ASU to a new program best record and first ever 30-plus win season with a record of 35-8-1, its first ever Final Four Appearance, first ever National Ranking of #1, and a benchmark win over NCAA DI Penn State. During the 2013-2014 season, ASU Hockey won the ACHA DI National Championship, with Powers named ACHA DI National Coach of the Year. The Sun Devils were also named WCHL Conference Champions both for 2013-2014 and 2014-2015, and Powers was named WCHL Coach of the Year for 2013-2014. Powers was also named an ACHA Division I National Coach of the Year finalist in 2012-13 and 2014-15. Himself a Sun Devil, Powers graduated from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism in 1999 and was inducted into the ASU Hockey Player Hall of Fame in in 2009. Collegiately, Greg was a three-time ACHA Division I All-American Goaltender while playing for the Sun Devils under the tutelage of Hall of Fame Head Coach Gene Hammett.
