NDSU Announces Contract Extensions for Three Head Coaches

FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State University athletic department announced multi-

year contract extensions for three head coaches Thursday, Aug. 22. Jeff Schwartz Director (701) 231-8332 [email protected] Ryan Perreault Associate Director (701) 231-8331 [email protected] Wes Offerman Assistant (701) 231-8047 [email protected] Ryan Anderson Assistant (701) 231-5591 [email protected] Kasey Byers Multimedia Coordinator (701) 446-6732 [email protected]

Men’s basketball coach Saul Phillips accepted a five-year contract with a two-year

rollover. Wrestling coach Roger Kish and softball coach Darren Mueller each accepted threeyear contracts with two-year rollovers.

Phillips has a 108-77 record entering his seventh season as head coach. He led NDSU to

a 24-10 finish last season and a second straight appearance in the College Basketball Invitational. NDSU returned to the Summit League title game for the first time since winning the 2009 league championship.

Kish led the Bison to the Western Wrestling Conference regular season title with 5-0

conference dual meet record in 2013. He claimed the league’s Coach of the Year award after directing NDSU to a 10-8 overall record with three wins over nationally ranked teams. Kish is entering his third season after leading NDSU to third-place and second-place finishes at the NCAA West Regional the past two years.

Mueller, a three-time Summit League Coach of the Year, guided NDSU to its second

and third league championships in 2012 and 2013. The Bison appeared in four straight NCAA tournaments from 2009 to 2012 including a Super Regional in 2009. He enters his 13th season as NDSU’s head coach with a 422-238 record. NDSU Athletic Director Gene Taylor: “I am very pleased we are able to secure Saul for several more years. He is an excellent person with a great family and has proven to be an outstanding coach. He has led a team to the NCAA tournament and, after losing some of our program’s most productive and talented basketball players to graduation, he has built another team that has excellent talent with high expectations. Saul has become a very valued and respected member of our staff and has a very talented group of assistants that complement him.” “I am very pleased we could extend Roger’s contract. After taking over the wrestling program from our most successful coach, Bucky Maughan, he has continued to build on that success and has a program that is proving to be one of the most watched wrestling programs in Division I. He is a tireless recruiter that has landed some outstanding talent and is creating a program that can have long-term success in our conference and nationally. Roger and his staff do a great job promoting our program and we are pleased that Roger will be a part of the NDSU Bison family for more years to come.” NDSU Women’s Athletic Director Lynn Dorn: “I am very pleased to offer Coach Mueller a contract extension as the head softball coach at North Dakota State University. Coach Mueller’s outstanding coaching record supports our sincere desire to retain him. Beyond coaching Darren has demonstrated a commitment to the academic success of his athletes, their civic responsibility, and to an overall positive collegiate experience for each individual. We are pleased Darren is a member of Bison Athletics.”
