LOWER SCHOOL NEWS Week of October 24, 2011

Lower School Headlines by Dr. Graham

Are leaders born or is leadership a set of acquired skills and traits? This is a long standing discussion among experts. One of my favorite leadership books is The World’s Most Powerful Leadership Principle by James C. Hunter. In the book, Hunter discusses his take on this topic “Whether they (leaders) are born or made is a crucial point because if we believe that leadership is a set of traits we are born with or without, then we do not take responsibility for it. We can just blame our ancestors. Once we accept the fact that leadership is a skill, we’re on the hook”. We work diligently throughout our school (Lower, Middle and Upper divisions) to prepare the leaders of tomorrow. This process involves a strong academic foundation, opportunities to develop communication skills through presentations and public speaking, and of course many occasions to serve in leadership roles. We are so proud of our students and it is quite rewarding to see them blossom into fantastic young leaders. Thanks so much for your continued support of our school and for sending such fantastic children to our school!
