Message from the Head Dear Parents/Carers Sadly this will be my penultimate piece for the Mulgrave Newsletter, because as you know I am leaving the school as Headteacher at the end of December. My 4 years and one term in post have been very memorable and completes 20 years as a Headteacher. My previous schools were in Nottinghamshire and very different from Mulgrave . I was quite nervous at taking up a new challenge in London after so many years north of the M25. However, London wasn’t completely unknown to me as I had taught in Tottenham as a young teacher and still visited friends regularly. Having said that, I really didn’t know ‘South of the River’ and particularly the south east corner where Woolwich is. Despite this, I have always felt very welcome and found the children and parents a joy to work with. This is because Mulgrave parents have a great desire for their children to do well in school and the children are so enthusiastic about what we can offer their learning. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the fantastic members of staff that I’ve worked with, many of whom have consistently gone the extra mile for the children and made Mulgrave a special place in which to learn. I am also grateful to our dedicated governors who often work in the background unnoticed, but who make such a difference to the quality of provision for the children. With Ms Choudhury stepping into the role of Acting Headteacher, you can be assured of someone who is determined to continue Mulgrave’s development and to bring new ideas and energy to this role. I wish her every success and happiness. Above all else I have enjoyed the diverse community that Mulgrave serves. This has shown strength in adversity and been a great model for others in terms of showing how people from different backgrounds can successfully live and work together. Mutual respect is at the bottom of this, which goes beyond simply tolerating each other. I wish all of you the very best for the future and will always look back on my time at Mulgrave with great fondness.

Food Tasting on Friday Come along and taste some samples of our new menu
Dear Parents/Carers
during Parent Day on Friday. There will be bagels and cake in the morning and hot food in the afternoon. I
The Autumn term has started wonderfully well. It’s great to see the children smartly dressed in their uniforms, eager to learn. This term we have celebrated Harvest, Eid and Black History Month. In addition, we have also started a whole school project focusing on children and staff thinking about ways they can ‘Be The Best You Can Be’. This is being developed and led by Miss Cook in Year 1 and Miss Golding in Year 3. We are always thinking about ways we can be better as a school and as a community and want to ensure that we continue to try hard at ‘Being The Best We Can Be’.
will be available in the hall to answer any questions you may have about our delicious, healthy food. Claire Byrne
At Mulgrave, we are always open to suggestions on how to make the school better. With changes at Mulgrave, it is crucial that we continue to work in partnership with our parents and carers and together make the best choices for you and your child. Mulgrave Primary School

YEAR 5 Year 5 have started an exciting World War 1 topic, learning about how WW1 effected the whole world. The school’s history, as well as the history of Woolwich, owes a lot to events that happened in WW1. Mulgrave Primary School was originally in a different location and called The Cyril Henry Nursery School where women who worked at the Ammunition factory could send their children while they were doing their bit for the war effort. Cyril Henry was a soldier who died during one of the many battles in the first years of the war. His mother decided to create a school in honour of her son. Year 5 have been on two local school trips. We visited Fire Power (the museum of The Royal Arsenal) where we looked at how the war had effected local people and met a Canary girl who told us of her experiences. Our second visit was to The Kings Troop at the local army barracks. We were lucky enough to watch The Kings Troop as they rehearsed for the state visit of the President of China.
BIRTHDAY CAKES
If you are thinking of sending a birthday cake in for your child’s class, please make sure that you check with their teacher beforehand. If they agree, all cakes should be pre-cut and should not contain any nut products. Thank you for your co-operation.
SCHOOL COUNCIL Phones For Food
SPOTLIGHT ON…
The school is taking in the Good Morning Britain/Magic Breakfast campaign.
Mrs C hapm a n Assistant Headteacher Years 1-3
The idea is simple; children, Parents or Staff donate their unwanted mobile phones and drop them in at the office and Good Morning Britain will exchange the phones for nutritional breakfasts at school breakfast clubs across the UK through the charity Magic Breakfast. The event is running until the end of October.
I have always strived to work hard and succeed in all my learning at school and in my jobs. In my family it was paramount that you always did your best and if you did this you would get to the top. After I left school I worked in Harrods where sometimes I had to deal with rather difficult clients. This was exciting because it meant that on occasions I would attend court. Furthermore I got to meet very famous people such as Princess Diana and Bruce Forsyth (from Strictly Come Dancing).
Feedback on Lunchtime School Council gave a positive feedback regarding the new school lunches, which is freshly made every day on the premises by the cook who begins at 7am every morning.
After having my children I went to University and got my degree as a teacher. This was very hard work and intense because it meant I had to work late into the night after putting the children to bed. However, through this determination I achieved my goal of becoming a teacher and a good teacher at that.
There was some discussion that some children do not want to try the fish, which is such a heathy food source for your brain and joints.
If you want to be the best you can be you have to set high standards for yourself and work hard.
