Military Road Safety Improvements - 26th Street N to 31st Street N Approved Recommendations

APPROVED RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS The approved recommendations for Military Road safety improvements were developed by receiving feedback on the preliminary recommendations (dated July 2007) from the Bellevue Forest and Donaldson Run Civic Associations in a meeting on September 26h, 2007. The recommendations are focused on low-cost, near term improvements that can be implemented within existing right-of-way. Capital intensive improvements such as regrading Military Road to improve sight distance was not included due to budgetary limitations. The approved recommendations are (see Figures 1, 2, and 3): Military Road and 31st Street North: 1. Install raised rubberized curb medians along Military Road. The medians will reduce vehicle speed due to the “narrowing” effect. 2. Convert existing crosswalk across Military Road to ladder style. 3. Install in-road yield to pedestrian signage at the Military Road crosswalk on the centerline for both travel directions.

In-road Yield to Pedestrian Signage The approved recommendations for the Military Road and 31st Street North intersection are shown on Figure 1.

Military Road Safety Improvements - 26th Street N to 31st Street N Approved Recommendations

Military Road and 26th Street North/26th Road North 1. Install raised rubberized curb medians along Military Road. The medians will reduce vehicle speed due to the “narrowing” effect. 2. Install raised rubberized curb intersection nubs at Military Road near 26th Street N and 26th Road N. Nubs should also be installed along Military Road at the crosswalk, along 26th Road N, and the southwest corner of 26th Street N. The nubs will reduce pedestrian crossing distance and will also reduce vehicle speed due to the “narrowing” effect. 3. Install flashing pedestrian actuated crossing signage at the 26th Road N intersection.

Pedestrian Actuation for Flashing Pedestrian Crossing Signage 4. Install in-road yield to pedestrian signage at the Military Road crosswalk on the centerline for both travel directions.

In-road Yield to Pedestrian Signage The approved recommendations for the Military Road and 26th Street North/26th Road North are shown on Figure 3.
