Miss Texas Stampede Quarterly Report February 2011

Here it is, already February and feeling more like the arctic tundra than Texas! I think this month clarifies all the more that Texas really does have every kind of weather possible. For my quarterly report, I have chosen to use mostly pictures, because as it is said, pictures are worth a thousand words. Being crowned Miss Texas Stampede in the Allen event center was a great honor, but even more so because this was the Stampede’s first time to be in this location. These first few pictures are of the beginning of the competition at Watters Creek Mall.

Photo taken after personal Interviews by Mendior Photography

This was taken before speeches started at Waters Creek Mall. From left to right, Victoria Welch, Stephanie Revels, Lauren Graham Miss Texas Stampede 2009, Katie Crews Miss Texas 2010, and Christy Jones.

After I finished giving my speech, Vitoria followed and at the immediate conclusion of her speech, the rain down poor started and everyone took off running for cover! We were very lucky to have a restaurant right across from us that we were able to duck into and finish the speech and modeling portion of the competition.

Horsemanship went very well in the Allen Event Center and the horse I was riding, Linx, did his very best as he helped me win the horsemanship division. The picture below was taken before personal interviews started. From left to right, Christy Jones, Victoria Welch, Stephanie Revels, Katie Crews.

Mendior Photography did an excellent job capturing the coronation. I am very thankful that I was able to get a few pictures from them on Facebook.

First queen’s introduction run as Miss Texas Stampede 2010!

My good friend Tacey Raulerson, Miss Four States F&R Tough Enough to Wear Pink Queen, was able to come to the rodeo and I was so glad that I got to see her again! Tacey was even more thrilled because she was on the arena floor when I got crowned because I had the honor of getting to crown Tacey in 2008 at my hometown rodeo, Four States Fair & Rodeo in Texarkana.

I had a wonderful time working with the queen’s committee during the pageant. A wonderful group of amazing women! From left to right, Jamee Johnson, Miss Texas Stampede 2008 and pageant director; Celeste Kaban; Katie Crews, Miss Texas Stampede 2010; Lauren Graham, Miss Texas Stampede 2009, and Tawn Brock.

My first full day as queen was filled with lots of adventures which included judging the chili cook off! I have never judged chili before…but I must say it was a great experience and I now feel like a chili cook off judging pro! The mayor of Allen was ever so kind and sent me a City of Allen polo shirt that I wear proudly. Chad Meints gave me his Allen Americans jersey and has invited me to do the ceremonial first puck drop at the March 2, 2011 game at 7:30pm. I hope everyone can make it to the game! I would love to see ya’ll there!

After the chili cook off I went to go check out the shopping at the Stampede Rodeo and met several nice people that wanted their picture with me and Jessica Locke, Miss North Texas Fair & Rodeo Queen.

At the Rodeo U barn I stopped by the rodeo clown paint and picture booth. I was unable to paint my face because of the Texas Stampede Rodeo that was soon to follow…but I got to see several great paint jobs on some fabulous up and coming rodeo clowns!

Rodeo U rodeo was a huge hit and we had some wonderful kids participating who did an excellent job in the events they competed in! I was able to help cheer the kids on and help them compete in their events. The picture below was taken right before the grand entry started.

The first event that I was invited to shortly after the Texas Stampede Rodeo was the Cattle Drive for the Kettle Drive with the Salvation Army. Kisty Tuck, Miss Rodeo Austin Princess, and I were invited to ride in the chuck wagon with three other gentlemen as we made a mini parade around the Ridgmar Mall in Fort Worth. We followed a herd of steers around the mall and some volunteers followed us with their red kettles as we made our way around the mall. We had a great time helping kick off the annual kettle drive with the Salvation Army.

In November, I was asked to judge the Texas Highschool Rodeo Association Regional Queen competition in Athens, TX. It was a two day competition for the THSRA Region titles. I had a great time getting to know the girls and encouraging them to continue pursuing their rodeo queen dreams while promoting the Texas Stampede Queen Competition.

As January rolled around, it was time for the 115th annual Ft. Worth Stock Show and Rodeo in the Stock Yards! We started our day bright and early with the Stock Show Parade. I rode on horseback for the parade along with Tommy Reynolds and his daughter while leading the Texas Stampede chuck wagon. We all had a great time at lunch together! After lunch I watched the tail end of the Best of the Rhemuda Sale with some friends from back home. The Ft. Worth Rodeo was definitely a highlight of my evening! The grand entry was very exciting with a full house and an occasional crazy horse, but all went well. I must say that the queen introduction runs were different from the normal intro runs I am used to doing…but that made it all the better! Me and four other girls all ran into the arena one by one and stopped towards the end of the arena after we had turned around to face the announcer. Then, after the two American flags took off running out of the arena all of us girls and the flag girls behind us followed in close behind! It was very fast and very exciting!! One of my favorite queens runs for sure. Also, a very special thank you to Paul Riggs for providing the use of a stall for us while we were in Ft. Worth! It was greatly appreciated and it was wonderful working with him! And thanks to everyone who sent me pictures or tagged me on Facebook from our day in Ft. Worth!

I will be competing for Miss Rodeo Austin March 11-13th. I am very excited to have Texas Stampede as my sponsor. Thanks for all that ya’ll do for me and everyone involved in the Stampede! I cannot wait to see what all this year has in store for me with the Texas Stampede! Don’t forget about the hockey game on March 2, hope to see ya’ll there! Katie Crews Miss Texas Stampede 2010-2011
