NW1001 - ARMITAGE JN (INCL.) TO PRESTON FYLDE JN. Shugborough Tunnel T unnel light ing. To assist staff working in the tunnel, light ing is inst alled on both walls. The approach of a t rain will cause the light s on t he side of the t unnel where the train will run to dim to half brightness every two or three seconds until t he front of t he train has cleared the tunnel. Normal Rule Book prot ect ion arrangement s must still be carried out and drivers must sound the warning horn in accordance with Rule Book Module TIN1 Sect ion 10, Clause 10. 2 at all times, irrespect ive of whet her the tunnel lights are switched on or off.

NW1001 - ARMITAGE JN (INCL.) TO PRESTON FYLDE JN. STAFFORD St af f ord No.4. As soon as a movement proceeding to the down sidings is clear of the points worked from Stafford No. 4 signal box and the movement is complet ely behind the yellow arm out let signal, the shunt er (or driver when not accompanied by a shunter) must advise the signaller at Stafford No. 4 signal box. A movement from t he down sidings must not pass the outlet signal unless it is clear, or the signallers permission is obt ained. The permission of the signaller must be obt ained bef ore any movement is made within t he down sidings. On complet ion of the move in t he sidings, the shunter (or driver when not accompanied by a shunt er) must advise the signaller. P r opelling of f reight t rains. The propelling of freight trains over the up platform No.1 line from Stafford No. 4 signal box to Stafford No. 5 signal box is prohibit ed. Up and Down plat f orm 6. Should t here be a f ailure of a track circuit, working by pilot man need not be int roduced on this line provided all trains leave the platform at the same end from which they arrived. A train that proceeds to this platform during t he failure of a track circuit must only enter the platform as f ar as is necessary to accommodat e the whole of the train. Up and Down G oods line (Rai! net plat f orm). Should there be a f ailure of a track circuit, working by pilot man need not be int roduced on this line provided the person in charge (PIC) informs the signaller at Stafford No. 4 or No.5 signal boxes that the train has left the platform line complet e with tail lamp, and that the line is again clear. St af f ord Royal Mail Hub. The Royal Mail 'Hub' comprises of a single platform face, which fronts the up and down goods line and is 214 metres (approximat ely 702 feet) long. The person in charge (PIC) will normally be on duty whenever trains are booked to call at the Hub platform. If a train is to be split into t wo or more port ions the PIC must advise the signaller of the det ails of each train when the READY-TO-START plunger is depressed. Should it be necessary for staff to work on t he side of a train adjacent to the running line the PIC must ask the signaller to provide protection.

Cr ewe Sout h Yard includes the E.W.S. sidings, the D R . & Coal sidings and the T hrough Siding. T he Through Siding bet ween Crewe Sorting Sidings North signal box and signal CE. 543 is under the control of the signaller at Crewe Sorting Sidings North signal box. Drivers of trains signalled over the T hrough Siding from Crewe signal box to Crewe Sort ing Sidings North or vice-versa, must check that t he hand-point s are in the appropriat e posit ion bef ore proceeding. Cleaning of windscreens. If the driver of an up train from Manchester, Liverpool or Preston (or beyond) to Birmingham or London (or beyond) requires the locomot ive/ unit windscreen to be cleaned at Crewe station the driver must give prior notice as follows: In the case of a train from Preston or beyond at the last booked calling point. (In an emergency, a special stop may be made at W arringt on to give notice). In the case of a train from Manchest er or beyond at Wilmslow. In t he case of a train from Liverpool at Runcorn. Note: W here provided, the NRN equipment must be used to give notice. The t rain will be routed to platform 1 or 11 and must be brought to a stand at the platform exit signal, where cleaning will be carried Out Bef ore cleaning commences, t he driver must f ully apply the aut omat ic brake and, in the case of electric traction, lower the pant ograph. On complet ion of cleaning, the driver must obt ain an assurance from t he cleaner that the work has been complet ed and that all mat erials are clear. Cleaning of windscreens. If a driver requires the locomot ive/ unit windscreen cleaning at Preston station the driver must give prior notice at the last calling point, or in ext reme emergency at the first signal in the Prest on signal box control area.
