NW6001 - MANCHESTER PICCADILLY EAST JN. TO E ATO N JN. MANCHESTER PICCADILLY St art ing of t rains f rom plat f orms - addit ional instructions to Rule Book Module SS1. Sect ion 6, Clause 6.5. Except for light locomotives, the READY-TO-START signal must be given by means of the right away (RA) indicator. On trains that do not have an opening window by the door controls, the guard must close all passenger doors, leaving the local door open. W hen the person in charge of the platform has given the STATION WORK COMPLETE signal, the guard must give the READY-TO-START signal to t he person in charge of the platform, bef ore closing the local door. T he person in charge of the platform must ensure that the local door is shut and the hazard light is ext inguished bef ore pressing the RA button. Prot ect ion of staff wor k ing on or bet ween st at ion plat f orms. T hes e instructions may be used to protect staff carrying out the f ollowing activities only: • w o r k i n g on f ailed trains, • l i t t e r picking I track cleaning, • w h i t e - l i n i n g platform edges, • p a i n t i n g yellow lines on platforms. 1. When work is to be carried out on a f ailed train, the immediat ely adjoining line must be blocked in addit ion to the line on which the train is standing. 2. W hen litter picking or track cleaning is being carried out the f ollowing platform lines must be blocked t oget her in palm: 1 and 2. 3 and 4, 5 and 6, 7 and 8, 9 (bet ween buf f er stop and signal MP.390) and 10, 9 (bet ween signals MP.390 & MP.374) and 13 (bet ween signals MP.391 & MP.382), 11 and 12. Except as shown above, platforms 13 and 14 may be blocked individually. 3. W hen whit e-lining platform edges or paint ing yellow lines on platforms only the affected platform line need be blocked. 4. Protection procedure. 4.1 T he person in charge of the work requiring protection (PIC) must give the signaller at Manchest er Piccadilly signal box the f ollowing details: • name, • em ploy er , • n a t u r e and locat ion of the activity, • h o w long the protection is required for. 4.2 T he signaller must arrange the necessary signal protection and make a suit able entry in t he Train Register/Occurrence book. The PIC must ask the signaller to confirm t he det ails of the entry in the T rain Register/Occurrence book and when satisfied that they are correct, must repeat the name and employer details back to the signaller for confirmation. 4.3 Bef ore commencing work the PIC must arrange for a det onat or and red banner, board or flag to be placed on the track adjacent to the platform ramp end of the blocked line before starting work. This protection must be provided on each blocked line and at both ends of platforms 13 and 14. 4.4 O t her than when a f ailed train is being worked on this protection procedure must not be used if t here is a train stabled on t he line(s) to be blocked unless the addit ional protection arrangement s described in Rule Book Module T2, Sect ion 3, Clauses 3.5 a) and b) are put in place.

4.5 W hen the work is complet e and the protection not ed in clause 4.3 has been removed the PIC must advise the signaller that all staff and equipment are clear of the line. The PIC must ensure that name and employer details are clearly confirmed to the signaller. 4.6 If the PIC is relieved during the work the name and employer details of the new PIC must be advised to the signaller. Plat f orms 13 and 14. Except in unavoidable circumstances, trains must not be delayed at platforms 13 or 14 await ing attention to t echnical problems. Drivers must not wait until arrival at platforms 13 and 14 bef ore request ing attention, unless prior arrangement s have been made. Drivers of down trains must work through to Oxford Road station. Drivers of up trains must not depart from Oxford Road until t he necessary attention has been given or the driver has been advised what alt ernat ive arrangement s have been made.

NIN6001 - MANCHESTER PICCADILLY EAST JN. TO RATO N JN. Brindle Heath Sidings W hen ent ering the Tarmac Company's private siding, drivers must bring t heir trains to a st and clear of the discharge hopper and must work to the inst ruct ions of the company's person in charge whilst in the depot . Loc om ot iv es must not be run over the dis c har ge hopper.

NW6003 - CASTLEFIELD „IN. TO ALLERTON JN. Trafford Park Sidings All movement s are under the control of the person in charge at Trafford Park Sidings (PIC). The maximum speed of trains in t he sidings must not exceed 5 mph hauling and 3 mph propelling except on t he recept ion and depart ure lines during daylight hours in clear weather, when the maximum speed must not exceed 10 mph. Recept ion lines. When vehicles of a train which has arrived on recept ion line No. 1 or 2 are drawn off at the east end, t he train locomot ive may f ollow the vehicles closely as far as signal M R747 or MR739. If for any reason the t rain locomot ive does not f ollow the vehicles closely the driver must not move until aut horised to do so by the PIC. F reight liner T erminal. Drivers of trains ent ering and leaving the F reight liner terminal must sound the locomot ive horn when approaching the level crossing leading to the terminal. The maximum speed of trains in t he terminal must not exceed 5 m ph except during daylight hours in clear weather, when the maximum speed must not exceed 10 mph. Authority for trains to depart will be given by the person in charge at the terminal. Manchest er Eurot erminal. Arriving trains must be brought to a stand at the relevant 'Stop' board. A ll subsequent movements will be under the control of the person in charge. Recept ion emergency gr ound f rame. When a movement is signalled from signal M R744 to sidings W1-W5 via t he emergency ground frame, the driver must keep a good look-out for handsignals.

NW6003 - CASTLEFIELD JN. TO ALLERTON JN. IM A M A reflectorised 15mph. W arning Indicator with a left hand arrow is provided at 26 miles 13 chains on the down Liverpool line approaching Irlam station. T his indicat or applies to movement s from the down Liverpool line to the down passenger loop at G lazebrook East Jn. I f a forward route is set from signal GE.40 along the down Liverpool line, t he associat ed AWS magnet will be suppressed and no AWS warning will be given. A t all ot her times, drivers must expect to receive an AWS warning when passing this magnet.

The points of the t railing connect ion from No. 2 siding to the civil engineer's siding must normally be kept clipped and padlocked for movements along No. 2 siding. W hen a movement is to be made to or from the civil engineer's siding, the person-in-charge of the movement (PIC) must first obt ain the padlock key from the signaller. Incoming trains must be brought to a stand at the 'Stop' board on the arrival siding. The locomotive(s) must be det ached and t he driver must obt ain the authority of the RMC person in charge (PIC) to pass the 'St op' board to enable the locomotive(s) to run round via the depart ure siding and the main line. Should a train arrive at Hope Street bet ween 1730 his and 2130 his when there are no RMC staff on duty, the 'St op' board may be passed wit hout authority in order to release the locomotive(s). Authority to proceed into the sidings will be given by means of a green light situated on the discharge buildings. W hen t he train is ready to propel from the arrival sidings to the RMC sidings, the t rainman must check that the green light is still illuminated. If the green light fails the RMC PIC must give verbal authority for any train movements.

If the Crossing Keeper is unable to signal trains over the crossing, a green handsignal will be displayed from t he crossing to aut horise train drivers to proceed.

TO SOUTHPORT Dean Lane LC (AHBC-X) If a train is brought to a stand on the up line at the signal protecting the level crossing (B13.101), due to the signal being at danger, the driver must use the t elephone at the signal to contact Burscough Bridge Junction signal box and t hen carry out any instructions given by the signaller If the t elephone has failed, the driver must try to speak to the signaller from the t elephone at the crossing. If this is not possible, t he driver must operat e the emergency plunger provided at the signal to lower the barriers. If the signal then clears, t he train may proceed normally, but the f ailure of the t elephone must be report ed to the signaller at Parbold signal box. If the stop signal fails to clear, the driver may pass the signal at danger but must not proceed over the crossing until sure that it is safe t o do so.
