Step 1 and 2 Half Square Triangles -
Step 3 - Flying Geese - Make 4 of each colorway. Using the Eleanor Burns method of assembly, Take the 5½” Square and the 7” squares and make 4 Flying Geese of each colorway.
Make 8 Red and Background Make 4 Black and Background
Square up to 3½” x 4½”. Make 4
Step 1 - Sew the Red and Background 3” squares together as shown. Right sides together and 1/4” on either side of the center line. Cut apart and press. Square up to 2½”. Make 8 Step 2 - Sew the Black and Background 3” squares together as shown. Right sides together and 1/4” on either side of the center line. Cut apart and press. Square up to 2½”. Make 8 Use the 4 - 2½” Background squares to finish assembling the above right unit. Make 4
Step 1 - Center Square - Make 1 Take a center 3½” square and sew black triangles to opposite sides. You should have 2¾” between seams when you press the triangles away from the center block. If this is correct, sew the other 2 triangles on. This square should Square to 4½”. measure 4½”

Assemble the Block in rows as shown to the right.
To do this, either use your Eleanor Burns Flying Geese Ruler or separate the “raw” Flying Geese. Use your ruler and cut the top 1/4” seam allowance across the tip of the triangle FIRST! Turn and cut the bottom of the triangle at 2” Then cut the sides.
