Moving on up

Cub Scout to Boy Scout can feel like a big transition for both the parent and Cub Scout who are ready to cross over to the next level. Orland Park Troop 318 eases the apprehension by hosting a 'Show and Do' for all the prospective Cub Scouts interested in learning more about Boy Scouts and Troop 318. Orland Park Cub Scout Pack 372 was one of those guests the weekend of October 14th, 2011 at Camp Sullivan in Tinley Park, IL. The scouts participated in hiking, and stations filled with life saving skills wrapped up in having fun. They were shown how to be independent and reliant on their own decision making skills all the while being guided by older more experienced Boy Scouts. The parents were treated as royal guests by the seasoned Troop 318 leaders, which prepared and cook all the meals during the 3-day adventure. The Cub Scouts, who ate with their parents, were able to watch as the Boy Scouts in their Patrols prepare their own meals which they had planned, shopped and brought themselves working as a team. My son cannot wait to be independent of his parents and have all the fun the older boys are having. However, little does he know, all that fun they are having are the life skills he will need to know to be successful in his business and private life one day . . . but I do.
