Mr. Richard Lee Mays was born March 22, 1934, in Courtland, Alabama. He was the son of the late Welter (Diamond) and Lula Watkins Mayes. He departed this life on July 13, 2016.
Processional
Richard confessed his faith in Christ at Pleasant Grove M.B. Church, where he remained until his passing. He was a faithful member until his health began to fail. He lived a life of unconditional love for both family and friends.

He leaves to cherish his memory: four daughters, Mary Louise (Moses) Turner of Cincinnati, OH, Emma Binford of Cincinnati, OH, Jacqueline Hampton and Tiffny Boyd, both of Courtland, AL; sons, Russell (Denise) Smith of Cincinnati, OH and Charles Smith of Cincinnati, OH and Ronald D. Throne; two brothers, James “Buddy Jean” (Dorothy) Mayes of Decatur, Charlie (Callie) Mayes of Courtland, AL; a loving and devoted special friend, Bertha Mitchell of Courtland, AL; a special young man, Dwight Mitchell of Courtland, AL; 18 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
