The Catholic School of Saint Gregory The Great PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES I will be taking a group of 15 volunteers with me to Lourdes on pilgrimage on Easter Sunday for a week. With us, will also be 9 children who we will be caring for during our time there. These children are all from our local area and some are even from our school. They will be going on pilgrimage with HCPT – The Children’s Pilgrimage Trust - because they have/have had things that have happened in their lives that sometimes make life tricky for them. We will be spending time at the Grotto where Mary appeared to Bernadette. If you would like us to post any prayers or petitions at the Grotto, please jot them on a note and bring them into me. I shall pop them into our luggage to take with us. Likewise, if you would like a candle lit by us for you while we are there … please let me know. Mrs Blanch & HCPT Group 15.

SUMMER CAMP The Living Your Faith Summer Camps, run by the Clifton Diocese, will be held during August and are intended to encourage children and young people to engage in their faith through fun, games and Spiritual input. They take place in the beautiful surroundings of the Marist Convent in Nympsfield. Week one 3rd -7th August (age 7-11 years). Week two 10th-14th August (age12-15). For more details contact Stephen Spurrell on 07860 849460 or [email protected] or look on the website http:// www.livingyourfaith.co.uk/

COMIC RELIEF Whilst we are happy for your child to bring their comic relief noses into school, as a school we will not be asking for donations towards Comic Relief because we feel that we constantly ask you for money for different charities throughout the year. We thank you for your ongoing generosity to the many projects we support as a school and encourage you to donate as a family if you wish to support Comic Relief in a monetary way. Thank you.

ASTHMA CHECKS The School has recently sent home an Asthma Form (Individual Health Care Plan on green paper). If you haven’t returned it please do so asap. If your child has asthma or uses an inhaler at home and you haven’t received a green Asthma Form please contact the office for a copy of one. Many thanks.

FS/KS1 LITURGY Please note the Liturgy due to take place tomorrow, Wednesday 11th, has been cancelled. The next one will take place on Wednesday 29th April at 11am. Please come along.

SCIENCE WEEK British Science Week runs from 13th – 22nd March. This year we are holding a science day on Friday 20th March. A solar eclipse will occur on Friday March 20, 2015. Admittedly we haven’t organised this just for the children of St Gregorys, just a lucky coincidence! In a rare astronomical alignment the Moon will pass directly between the Sun and the Earth, blocking out most of the light from around 8.40am on March 20. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. The most spectacular eclipse of the Sun for 15 years will plunge Britain into twilight for two hours. Don’t forget to protect your eyes while watching solar eclipses. Never look directly at the Sun at any point without proper protection. The only way to view the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed Sun safely is to project or filter the Sun's rays. Our Science Day will begin with an assembly launching our theme for the day…which is a secret! Following this will be a workshop for each year group and a follow up task/investigation for each class to undertake during the day. All classes will be tweeting about their science adventures! An after school show will held for Gifted and Talents Scientists and their families, invitations to follow. We would love for parents to come in and join their children’s classes for part of the day. Please let us know prior to the day if you are able to do so. 9.00-9.30 9.30-10.10

NEW E-SAFETY LOGO As part of E-safety week we ran a competition to design our own school E-safety logo. We had a good numbers of entries but the winner is Lilly Rollason. This logo will appear on all future E-safety documentation.
