MUSKIES ARE BACK ON CAMPUS! Freshmen Move In! The first annual Help-a-Muskie Move-in Day was held this year! The Lakeland softball was very involved with the day, as returning Muskies got together to help their new freshmen teammates move into their dorm rooms. “It is great to see all of the returners come and help the new freshman move in and get aquainted with the campus,” stated Head Coach Hailey Dreyer. “We enjoy getting to start this new journey with them and their families.” “I enjoyed helping everyone else move in,” said Sophomore Mikayla Hilton from Port Washington, Wis, “it was fun to get to know the new people that will be a part of this Muskie family.” The softball team started a great move-in tradition that will be passed on for years to come!
Softball Field Updates!
Summer went by fast, but, it is good to have our Muskies back on campus! Changes at Lakeland are happening quickly and we want to share some softball field updates with you. The softball field is being renovated and the Muskies will be playing on the new field starting this fall! Our infield will add a new high-quality mix and will be laser-graded to provide better draining towards the backstop. Our outfield and foul area will gain sod replacement, as well as repair the damaged areas in left field and behind the first base dugout. Lastly, we will be getting new foul poles and creating a limestone walkway that extends from the street to the backstop. These updates, along with our new dugouts, corner to corner wind screen and new scoreboard addition last year, have the Muskie softball team playing on a whole new diamond this year!
ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Once a Muskie, always a Muskie!
Life After College “They say if you love your job then it doesn’t seem like a job,” newly added alumnus Brittany Jurek (’14) stated after receiving her first full-time job after graduation. She will be the new assistant softball coach at University of Northwestern Ohio. “What excites me about coaching is the fact that I still get to be around the sport that I loved to play, while helping others be successful in the sport they have a passion for.” As a Muskie, we pride ourselves on being able to balance the competiveness of softball with the importance of academics. We want to prepare our athletes to become professionals-in the real world. “Lakeland prepared me by showing me how to build relationships with people by making me feel a part of a big family. I truly loved being at Lakeland because of the relationships that I built on and off the field, which will help translate into the relationships that are necessary within the work force.”
Special congratulations to former Muskie softball player Elisa Waltz (‘08), who married Lakeland men’s and women’s tennis coach Casey Carr on July 19, 2014, and to Leah Sheahan (‘13) who married former Muskie wrestler Ryan Renon on August 2, 2014. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness!
