Muskies Give Back! Animal Shelter Volunteers November is a time for being thankful for what you have and giving back to others. The Muskies have spent their October and November taking time to appreciate others and the Lakeland community by completing over 50 hours of community service. One community service activity that the team has been participating in weekly is working at the Sheboygan County Humane Society. “I love working at the animal shelter because not only is it fun, but it’s the little things we do for our community that make a big difference to those in need,” said freshman Rosa Gonzalez. We got the chance to help the shelter out with daily tasks such as cleaning kennels, washing dishes, feeding the animals, walking the dogs, and of course, playing with the animals. Freshman Savannah Stenlund said: “It is nice to be able to give back and help out the animals. I love being around the animals and helping clean the shelter so the animals have a nice place to live, and it takes a little stress off the workers. When I leave the shelter I am always in a great mood because I love the feeling of helping others out in some way.”
Canstruction Champs! The Muskie softball team participated in the annual Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Cans Across the Conference Food Drive for the third year in a row. The team has collected 1,090 cans for the local food pantry while also participating in friendly competition between teammates, the athletic department and the conference. “It feels great knowing that we are helping people throughout the community and making a difference in people’s lives, said freshman Sarah Judge. “I love that we give back so much and truly make positive impact for those in need.” The Muskies won the Canstruction contest this year by creating a fully detailed softball field with the cans they collected!
The Muskies also got the chance to be a part of Special Olympics Day at Lakeland. They spent the morning hanging out with these awesome individuals and teaching them how to hit and throw. Sophomore Rachel Conery said about the experience: “I had so much fun being able to spend the day with the participants at the Special Olympics event. It’s nice to know you can give them a smile and do something for them that they’ll remember forever! Lakeland athletics has a great reputation and I’m so grateful to be a part of it!”

What’s one piece of advice you would tell the current Muskies that represent your alma mater? Discipline means more than you think right now. Championship teams are disciplined and take pride in everything they do. When you put on that LC jersey you’re not just playing for you or your current team, but also for the LC tradition. I can’t pick just one, but many of the criminal justice classes were very interesting and fun.
EXTRA EXTRA! The Muskies have adopted a team mascot, Musko the fish. He was graciously donated to Coach Dreyer by Sophomore, Mikayla Hilton. Musko currently resides in Coach Dreyer’s office and he will be cheering on the Muskies from his bowl this season.
