Depart the U.S. on individual flights.
Pay a visit to the NGO Equal Education, a group of students, educators, and community members actively working towards quality education for the students of South Africa. There will be an optional tour to Robben Island (weather permitting), once described by Nelson Mandela as, “the harshest, most iron-fisted outpost in the South African penal system” and now an international symbol of triumph of the human spirit. Now a living museum and World Heritage Site, the island is a reminder of the past and a symbol of hope for the future. This is an optional excursion, and must be booked before departure. (Breakfast)
October 9, 2016 Arrive at Cape Town International Airport. Transfer on your own to the hotel for check-in, followed by a welcome reception and dinner. (Reception, Dinner) October 10, 2016 After breakfast, participate in a country orientation. This presentation will cover the historical background of South Africa, plus an overview of South Africa’s education system. Take the revolving aerial cable car to the summit of Table Mountain, where you can see the entire Cape Peninsula, the Atlantic and Indian oceans, the harbor and beaches of South Africa, and the city of Cape Town in its full glory. After lunch, visit the Community of Learning Principals at the University of Western Cape. (Breakfast, Lunch) October 11, 2016 This morning, visit a public high school to learn about art education in South Africa. In the afternoon, visit the COSAT Centre of Science and Technology. (Breakfast, Lunch). October 12, 2016 This morning, visit a private high school to compare and contrast. After lunch, visit the District 6 Museum and enjoy a sunset walking tour. (Breakfast, Lunch)
October 14, 2016 Spend your last day exploring the coasts and mountain range that define the geography of Cape Town. Starting downtown, it will lead you over the neck between Table Mountain and Lions Head into Camps Bay, Cape Town’s premier beachside suburb. Continue up Chapmans Peak Drive and through the peaceful districts of Noordeck, Kommetjie and Misty Cliff to Cape Point, the South Western most tip of Africa. Return to the hotel for a farewell dinner. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) October 15, 2016 Transfer to the airport for individual flights home. (Breakfast)
