Recipes!!! Amla Berry Face and Hair Mask One day I was at the North Shore in Hawaii and walked into this little Fujian market and saw this little gem sitting on the counter, amla powder. I decided to buy it and try it at home. It is the best mask for my face I have ever used. This paste can be used for your face or hair. I have found this powder at local Asian markets or you can find it online here. Amla powder, also known as Indian gooseberry, is an excellent exfoliator, anti-oxidant and anti-bacterial astringent scrub for your face. Amla powder is high in vitamin C and helps to break up the top layer of dead skin cells and lighten dark spots.
Ingredients Amla berry powder Hot water
Directions 1. Mix powder into a paste with hot water. Let it cool. 2. Apply warm amla paste onto your face and body, and cleanse. You may also allow it to sit on your face or body for 5-10 minutes for deeper intense cleansing. However, it will harden very tightly so make sure to not move your face muscles while wearing the mask. Add lots of water to soften the mask and rinse off. 3. If using it on your hair, just add to towel dried hair. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse out.
Recipes!!! Avocado as Moisturizer With their healthy fats and phytonutrients, avocados offer remarkable benefits to human skin both when eaten and when used topically.
Ingredients ½ avocado — you can use the other half for your sandwich!
Directions 1. Lather avocado on dry, sun-exposed skin for a rush of moisture — make sure your avocado fruit is fully ripe. You can even use the inside of the avocado skin for its moisturizing oils. 2. To do so, rub the inner layers of the avocado peel against your face, leave on for 15 minutes, and then rinse off with warm water and pat dry.
Recipes!!! Avocado Yogurt Face Mask Avocados are Mother Nature's skin moisturizer. They are a great source of vitamin E and potassium that can help maintain your skin’s natural glow. For a natural astringent that can reduce swelling and inflammation add a little raw honey. By adding yogurt, you have a natural cleanser that softens and hydrates the skin while tightening wrinkles and refining pores.
Ingredients 1 avocado 1 Tbsp raw honey 1 Tbsp plain yogurt
Preparation 1. Slice the avocado in half and take out the pit. Scoop the avocado flesh from its peel and start mashing with a fork. Stir in the honey, and then the yogurt. 2. Wash your face with warm water, and pat dry with a towel. 3. Apply the paste onto your face and neck. Leave on for 15 to 30 minutes. 4. Rinse with warm water. For tighter pores, rinse again with cool water right after warm water, and pat dry with a towel.
Recipes!!! Avocado-Based Hair Conditioner Craving guacamole? Well maybe your hair is too!
Ingredients 1 avocado ½ to 1 C coconut milk
Directions 1. Mix one mashed avocado with coconut milk until thick. 2. Comb through hair, leave on for 15 minutes, and rinse.
Recipes!!! Banana and Lemon Mask Use bananas not only in your smoothies but for a soothing and moisturizing mask as well. The acidic and antibacterial qualities of the lemon make this a great mask to use on acne-prone skin.
Note: Citrus fruits cause skin photosensitivity, which means your skin is more sensitive to the sun. Therefore, take precautions for sun exposure when using products that contain lemon or lemon oil.
Ingredients 1 banana 1 tsp honey 8 drops of lemon juice
Directions 1. Take one small, ripe banana, a teaspoon of honey and approximately eight drops of lemon juice. Mix together and apply to a clean face. 2. Leave the mixture on for 5-10 minutes, then cleanse with warm water and apply toner and moisturizer.
Recipes!!! Chamomile Eye and Skin Calmer Chamomile tea isn't just for drinking but is a great way to ease irritated, red or puffy skin and eyes.
Ingredients 1 chamomile tea bag Water
Directions 1. For the eyes, take chamomile tea bags soaked in cold water, blot with a paper towel and apply to eyes. 2. For skin, boil water and pour it into a spray bottle. 3. Add a bag of chamomile tea, brew and place in fridge until cool. 4. Then, mist on your face for easy relief.
Recipes!!! Creamy Honey Conditioner Mix honey, mayonnaise and egg together for a nourishing hair condition … and a heck of a potato salad base.
Ingredients 1 Tbsp honey 1 Tbsp mayonnaise 1 egg
Directions 1. Whip together and apply to clean towel dried hair. 2. Wrap with plastic wrap and let sit for 15-30 minutes. 3. Remember to rinse with cool water to be sure not to cook the scrambled egg on your head.
Recipes!!! Eye Makeup Remover with Aloe and Olive Oil Aloe vera and olive oil are two power hitters and will do amazing things for your skin while doing the tough job of removing your mascara! Aloe vera water comes from the aloe vera plant, which is used in herbal medicine for its soothing abilities. It is a cooling agent that helps calm the skin and it contains a plethora of amino acids and vitamins. Since it's made up of 95 percent water, you can be sure that it is extraordinarily hydrating and refreshing for your face. As for extra virgin olive oil it actually closely resembles your skin's natural oil production, which means that it won't clog your pores or dry your skin out, but rather will keep it extra soft and clear of any impurities.
Ingredients 1 part extra virgin olive oil 3 parts aloe vera water (if you can’t find it, filtered water will work just fine)
Directions 1. Combine together in a re-sealable bottle and give it a shake. 2. After thoroughly shaking the mixture, soak one of your cotton pads with it and gently press it over each eye. It can also be used for your whole face. This makeup remover is incredibly light and clean, yet powerful enough to remove any stubborn waterproof makeup. This would also be a great formula to try if you have any allergies or sensitivities to chemicals, or just sensitive skin in general.
Recipes!!! Facial Toner with Witch Hazel and Rose Water This one is my grandma’s beauty secret — witch hazel and rose water. The best facial toner recipe for your skin! So simple to make and so affordable! I use this toner to tighten my pores and keep my skin soft and clear.
Ingredients Organic roses and/or petals ½ C pure filtered water ½ C witch hazel
Directions 1. Over the stove in a small sauce pan, combine the witch hazel, 1/2 C of water and your rose petals (and rose hips if you have them). 2. Bring to a simmer and turn heat off. Cover and let steep for 4 to 5 hours and then strain off plant material. 3. Once cooled, put in a pretty glass bottle with a small spray pump. 4. Spritz onto your face after cleansing and before moisturizing. In the winter this is especially soothing to the skin.
Recipes!!! Foot Soak Ingredients 1/2 C white vinegar, Gallon of warm water A few drops of essential oil
Preparation 1. Mix ingredients together in a pan or dish you can fit both feet in. 2. Let your feet soak for 45 minutes in mixture. (Feel free to watch an episode of your favorite TV show while letting them soak.) 3. When time is up, use a pumice stone to remove the skin on heels and other callused areas of your feet.
Recipes!!! Gentle Oatmeal Mask Whether you have dry, itchy winter skin or discomfort from summer mosquito bites, this oatmeal mask will provide instant relief.
Ingredients 1 Tbsp honey 1 egg Oatmeal, cooked
Directions 1. Mix honey and egg in a small bowl. 2. Slowly add enough oatmeal to create a thick paste. 3. Smooth mask over face and neck. Leave it on for 15 minutes. 4. Rinse with lukewarm water.
Recipes!!! Homemade Hair Conditioner with Egg Yolk and Olive Oil Strengthen your hair by creating an egg-yolk-and-olive-oil hair mask. I once over bleached my hair and it was so dry and felt like straw. This was the best thing I used to help condition my hair. Bleaching your hair removes the protein in it, makes it weak and causes breakage. The protein in the egg yolk will toughen up tresses, while the olive oil will act as a conditioning agent.
Ingredients 1 egg 1 tsp olive oil 1 C water
Directions 1. Beat an egg yolk until it’s frothy; add 1 tsp olive oil and 1 C water. 2. Massage through scalp and wrap with plastic wrap and a hot towel and let sit for 30 minutes. 3. Make sure to rinse in cold water so you don’t cook that scrambled egg on your head!
Recipes!!! Honey Honey has antibacterial properties and can help restore a healthy balance for your skin and combat acne.
Ingredient Raw Honey — that’s it!
Directions 1. If your skin is sensitive and blotchy, apply a couple tablespoons of raw honey to your face and leave on for 5 to 10 minutes. The honey will moisturize, soothe and help kill blemish-causing bacteria.
