NEED TO KNOW: Students should bring in their favorite

End of Year Upcoming Events: First graders will be participating together in some fun theme days coming up soon! On Friday, we will be having COOKIE THEME DAY, followed by next Monday and Tuesday ICE CREAM THEME DAYS, and next Wednesday will be GAME THEME DAY! These days will be academic related activities in reading, writing, and math. COOKIE DAY Activities: -“If You Give A Mouse A Cookie” read aloud and respond to story elements in their chocolate chip cookie book - Practicing teamwork with our Cookie Monster game - Creating and writing about their own very own cookie creation. - Adding and Subtracting math facts to create a mystery cookie picture - Cookie tasting four kinds of cookies to then survey and graph the class results! YUMMY! ICE CREAM Activities: - Put Ice cream words in ABC alphabetical order - Reading poetry and creating their own ice cream flavor - Survey and graphing “Do You Like Ice Cream Sundaes?” - Create a How To book on building an Ice Cream sundae and then actually MAKE ONE following their own steps in their book! Yum! - Science experiment following scientific process on which way Ice Cream melts faster - Solve ice cream math word problems - Read aloud “The Ice Cream King” and students create their own ice cream kingdom - Survey and graph what our Favorite Ice Cream Flavor is as a class GAME DAY Activities: **STUDENTS WILL NEED THEIR FAVORITE BOARD GAME TO PLAY THIS DAY!** Please make sure that games do not have many small parts and can be played in a short amount of time. Read “Batty’s Big Game” discussing sportsmanship and teamwork to then complete story map about the book - Play Addition and Subtract math dice game in partners to solve number sentences - Survey and graph class results for favorite type of game to play - Write their own How To instructions on how to play the game they brought in to share - Participate in playing games that are shared using teamwork and cooperation! -
