*****NEW BAT RULES – EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2018***** This affects all BASEBALL divisions!!! ***2 ¼ and 2 5/8 inch minus factor bats (-5, -7, -9, etc) used in 2017are illegal to use in 2018*** As announced in 2016, the baseball bat rules would change as of January 1, 2018. They are very specific in the PONY Baseball Rule Book (Section 8-C) and PONY Softball Rule Book (Rule 3, Section 1). . LEGAL / ILLEGAL BATS: Any bats that are deemed illegal may not be used for ANY League activity, i.e. games, practice, or tournament play. Manager and coaching staff are responsible for knowing and abiding by PONY rules regarding bats BASEBALL BATS: PONY Rule Book 8C: In conjunction with USA Baseball and its other participating national member organizations, PONY Baseball has adopted the new USA Baseball bat standard (USABat). Wooden, metal, graphite or ceramic bats manufactured for baseball play, which are round & not more than 2 5/8 inches in diameter at the thickest park not more than 42 inches in length, are acceptable.
2 5/8 inch BARREL bats, (-5, -7, -9, etc) MUST be certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat.
2 5/8 inch BARREL bats that are -3 MUST be BBCOR certified (stamped) on the bat.
2 ¼ inch BARREL bats MUST be certified with the USABat licensing stamp on the bat.
2 ¼ inch BARREL bats are legal in all divisions of PONY Baseball (Pinto through Pony divisions).
2 ¾ inch BARREL bats are prohibited in all divisions of PONY Baseball
TEE-BALL BATS: May be used when a using a safety ball (Shetland 4, Shetland, 6U Softball) These bats will say “T-Ball” or TB on the bat. SOFTBALL BATS: Bats no more than 2 ¼” in diameter at the thickest part, not longer than 34” and not to exceed 38 ounces are legal. Bats must be stamped with “ASA approved” and not listed on ASA Banned Bat List.
