Extensions to the Pre-School One of the major projects the 2015/16 committee have worked on over their time was the purchase of more land for the pre-school. As part of a community organisation, it is important that we look at ways that we can support the local community as well as insuring the long term sustainability of the preschool. The purchase of the new land will offer many opportunities. In the short term it will provide an addition outdoor play space for the pre-school which will give us the opportunity to rest some of the grass areas which suffer over the winter months. In the long term we aim to open a brand new extended hours facility catering for children 0 to 5 years of age. If you are interested in more information about this project join us between 5.30 to 6.00 at our committee meeting which has an open forum for noncommittee members. Next Committee Meeting: Tuesday 28th June. 5.30 to 6.00 Open to all pre-school members 6.00 – 8.00 Elected committee member meeting.
Thank you for volunteering your time. I look forward to working together for the year. R EMINDER

Healthy Lunchbox ideas Many parents find it a challenge to choose healthy lunch box food that their child will eat. Over the next few weeks we will be cooking some snack ideas. Look out for recipes on our day sheet and the children’s responses to the new foods. The pre-school also provides children additional fruit and vegetables during morning tea and lunch time. This is often a time that children will taste new foods as they watch their peers enjoy food that they would not usually try. Remember as children’s taste palates are still forming, it takes many trials before children can become accustom to new foods and textures. If you have some healthy recipes that work well at home, please share them with us. PARKING At the Pre-School Parking in the street can be difficult at times as we share the street with the public school. I know that many parents have to park in Barrington St or drive around the block before getting a parking spot. Families need to remember the safety of all children but following a few simple rules. • • • •
Only park for a maximum of 10 minutes outside the front of the pre-school. Don’t park across or in other neighbours’ drive ways. Don’t leave children in the cars. All school children should cross at the crossing.
All children must be safely fastened in the correct child car seat for their age and size. A child who is properly secured in an approved child car seat is less likely to be injured or killed in a car crash than one who is not.
Up to 6 months Approved rear facing child car seat.
6 months to 4 years
4+ years
145cm or taller
Approved rear or forward facing child car seat.
Approved forward facing child car seat or booster seat.
Suggested minimum height to use adult lap-sash seatbelt.
National child restraint laws • Children up to the age of six months must be secured in an approved rearward facing restraint • Children aged from six months old but under four years old must be secured in either a rear or forward facing approved child restraint with an inbuilt harness • Children under four years old cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows • Children aged from four years old but under seven years old must be secured in a forward facing approved child restraint with an inbuilt harness or an approved booster seat • Children aged from four years old but under seven years old cannot travel in the front seat of a vehicle with two or more rows, unless all other back seats are occupied by children younger than seven years in an approved child restraint or booster seat • Children aged from seven years old but under 16 years old who are too small to be restrained by a seatbelt properly adjusted and fastened are strongly recommended to use an approved booster seat • Children in booster seats must be restrained by a suitable lap and sash type approved seatbelt that is properly adjusted and fastened, or by a suitable approved child safety harness that is properly adjusted and fastened. If your child is too small for the child restraint specified for their age, they should be kept in their current child restraint until it is safe for them to move to the next level.
