November Parent Involvement Project Nothing says November like turkey! Your job this month is to disguise your turkey so that he won’t become Thanksgiving dinner! In the past I’ve seen Ninja Turtles, Princesses, Batman, Minnie Mouse, and all kinds of other interesting characters! This is one of my favorite projects, because I love seeing what the students create! Return your turkey in disguise by November 10, and I’ll display them until the end of the month!

AR Stars for October and Other News Accelerated Reader is going very well in our class, with every child passing at least one AR quiz this month! Ours was one of two classes to have 100% participation for the week of Oct. 20-24! We were so proud when we heard our class called over the intercom! Now, we want to hear it EVERY week! Congrats to the following students who read and passed AR quizzes for the month of October:
Daniya-19
Cheyenne-12
Great work! The Book It calendars for October are now due, and the November calendar will be in your child’s binder, along with information about the Thunder Reading Challenge. The Thunder Reading Challenge is an incen-

tive program, like Book It, to encourage reading at home. Each day, the parent logs how long the student read at home on the calendar. At the end of the month, the minutes are added up, and the student who reads the most minutes will receive a prize from the Thunder. This is a great program, and I’m so excited to be a part of it! Our Braum’s Book Buddy program is going so well! Last Friday, I signed so many coupons, I was afraid if all the students went to Braum’s at once, they might run out of ice cream! I’m so proud of all the students for putting in so much effort to become better readers!
Students of the Month Each second grade teacher chose a boy and girl to represent their class as Student of the Month. Daniya Green and Bla’yne Childs were chosen as the Students of the Month for October for our class. We had a drawing to determine the Second Grade Students of the Month, and Daniya and Michael Turner from Ms. Pond’s class won. Congrats!
October Champions When you believe, you can achieve, and I’ve had many students put forth a championship effort this month! Reading Champions: Augusta, Kayli, Daniya, Audrina, Car’Shawn, Ryan, Tonya, Masyn and Tessa.
Spelling Champions: Cheyenne, Kayli, Adrian, Daniya, Audrina, Car’Shawn, Jakeb, Rasee, Ryan, Masyn Math Champions: Cheyenne, Bla’yne, Augusta, Kayli, Adrian, Daniya,

Character Counts Carnival A BIG THANK YOU to the parents that came out to volunteer for the Character Counts Carnival. We all had a great time, and we couldn’t do it without the assistance of parents and community members that so graciously volunteer their time.

Six Flags Read to Succeed In your child’s binder, you’ll find a Read to Succeed reading log. Read to Succeed is a reading incentive program sponsored by Six Flags. Like Book It and the Thunder Challenge, Read to Succeed is to encourage reading in the home. Your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books! Allowing students to choose their own reading material is a big motivator when it comes to read-

ing! It’s a good idea to keep the log in the binder, so that your child can keep up with it, and you can easily update it each time your child reads. The goal for Read to Succeed is 360 minutes or 6 hours. If your child meets the goal, and returns the form in time, he or she will receive a FREE ticket to Six Flags!
