[email protected] OFFSHORE SAILING SCHOOL TO HOST WOUNDED VETERAN REGATTA ON FT. MYERS BEACH, FLORIDA Ft. Myers Beach, Fla (September 22, 2015) – America’s #1 Sailing School based in Fort Myers, Fla. will host a regatta for 20 participants of the Wounded Veteran Retreat and Adaptive Sailing Program at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina on October 6, 2015. Offshore Sailing School founder Steve Colgate was instrumental in arranging the event and said, “We thank our veterans for their service and are pleased to support the important work of the Wounded Veteran Retreat Program. We recently completed a successful regatta with another 20 Wounded Veterans at our North Cove Sailing School at Brookfield Place in Manhattan.” Established by retired Command Sgt. Maj. Nelson Corbin, the Wounded Veterans Adaptive Sailing Program is designed to work within the Vision and Mission of Wounded Veteran Retreat Program (WVRP), to enhance the lives of our wounded veterans and their families, and to help reduce the amount of veterans’ suicides nationwide. Corbin emphasized that “each sailing event involves team building, developing individual skills, social activities, and building self-confidence” which are all must-do items to enhance their way of life. WVRP is a 501c3 non-profit organization and is Disabled Veteran-owned and Disabled Veteran-operated. Offshore Sailing School is providing its Colgate 26 fleet and instructors to conduct an orientation of the vessels and local waterways, and run the Regatta for the veterans from across the country. In addition to Offshore Sailing School’s role, local event support is being provided by the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina and Scotlynn USA Division Inc. Scotlynn’s Executive Vice President Ryan Carter said, “This is a great thing to be a part of and we are happy to contribute.” WVRP’s Corbin is a graduate of Offshore Sailing School’s Fast Track to Cruising Course, which he took at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina, where he met Steve and Doris Colgate. “It was obvious that the wounded veterans really enjoy the team work required to handle a sailboat well in all conditions,” explained Steve Colgate, who also helped Corbin secure a week-long charter with The Moorings for a WVRP sailing excursion in the British Virgin Islands in January 2016. Offshore Sailing School is the Official Sailing School of The Moorings, the world’s premier yacht charter company. Offshore Sailing School’s eight locations include three resort-based campuses in Florida (Captiva Island, Ft. Myers Beach, and St. Petersburg) and two in the British Virgin Islands on Scrub Island and Tortola. The company operates three seasonal schools on New York Harbor. Sailing programs include lessons and rides, sailing certification courses from Learn to Sail and Performance Sailing, to Bareboat Charter and Live Aboard Cruising, and Passage Making. Offshore Sailing School also hosts corporate team building programs and group regattas, and two Sailing Clubs.
