Friday 11th December 2015 Dear Parents and Carers, Class 1 Nativity Recently Class 1 performed their Christmas play for us. This year we were lucky enough to enjoy ‘The Wriggly Nativity’. The whole of Class 1 have worked tirelessly on this and the results were clear to see. It was delightful! Parents packed the hall on two occasions and the whole school were also treated to a performance. Well done to you all and a special thanks to Lynne Johnston, whose artistic flair was evident in the wonderful set design. School Christmas Dinner Yesterday, we enjoyed a fantastic Christmas feast cooked by Mrs Peach and her helpers. Virtually the whole school sat down to turkey and all the trimmings. It was most enjoyable with a super atmosphere in the dining hall. Josh, Jak, Amelie, Henry, Tabitha and Holly treated us to some lovely Christmas tunes on the piano and Mrs Gloyns gave all the children a Christmas treat. Christmas Tree Competition Recently, Kingsbridge held their annual Christmas celebration day. As part of this, all the local schools and children’s clubs were invited to take part in creating a recycled Christmas tree to be displayed in Kingsbridge. This year, the whole school contributed to creating a fantastic tree to represent Salcombe. Half of the tree was made out of natural materials and half made of recycled materials. It was a most effective idea and as a result we came second. Well done everyone! Christmas Craft Open Afternoon On Tuesday 15th December we will be holding a Christmas Craft Afternoon. All parents and carers are most welcome to join us and get crafty, making all things Christmassy! You can pop in at any point during the afternoon from 1.15pm. We look forward to seeing you there.

Class Christmas Parties On Wednesday, during the afternoon, the children will be enjoying Christmas parties in their classrooms. Some Christmas party food will be provided but if you would like to bring in a plate of goodies that would be most welcome.

Church Carol Service On Thursday 17th December the whole school will be walking down to church for our annual carol service. This is always a lovely event and we would like to invite all parents and carers to join us at church for this service. We could do with volunteer walkers to join us in our walk down to church and back. We will be leaving school at approximately 1.30pm. Please contact the school office, or let your child’s teacher know if you are able to help us with this. Many thanks. You are all very welcome to collect your children at the church at just before 3pm. Those that remain will be walked back to school to leave at the usual time. National Christmas Jumper Day! The last day of term is on Friday 18th December. This also happens to be national Christmas jumper day. We would like to invite the children to come to school in non-uniform on this day in return for a donation of £1 towards the school. We would especially like it if they could wear a Christmas jumper (although this is not compulsory!) If you do not have a Christmas jumper, we do not want you to splash out on a new one…maybe decorate an old or plain one with any spare Christmas decorations. We are looking forward to a lovely, festive, last day of term. A Warm Welcome Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome two new members to our school team. You may have already seen Mrs Tyne and Miss Middlebrook around the school. They have joined Mrs Mckenny and Mrs Hayes in Class 1. We are very happy to have you here and hope that you enjoy your time with us. Yours sincerely, Miss Heather Slater Head of Teaching and Learning
