Club focus – Gaultier GAA Club BY: Cathal Dalton (Gaultier GAA) Nestled in the heartland of hurling in east Waterford, Gaultier Juvenile Football Club has gone from strength to strength in recent years. With almost 200 players in the juvenile ranks, it has forged its way to the forefront of juvenile football in East Waterford. This considerable achievement has materialised in spite of having to draw its pool of talent from two local hurling clubs. Most clubs only have to compete with other sporting codes to attract players, but Gaultier has to find its niche between its players commitments to both Passage East and Ballygunner Hurling Clubs. Occasionally players who face each other on the hurling field one evening will tog out together the next evening in a spirit of camaraderie that defies their age and the local rivalries that are traditionally associated with neighbouring clubs. The ability of the club to thrive is embedded in its core culture and philosophy of inclusion and openness. From the earliest age, the primary focus is on participation of all players, and adherence to this philosophy is the cornerstone of the clubs success. Every player who arrives at the training field does so in the knowledge that his ambition of playing on a team is a reality and not a dream. From the committee to the coaches who give their time to further the aims of the club, this common purpose is the defining feature that keeps the club at its current status. The loyalty of the club to its players is matched and exceeded by the loyalty of the players to the club and the steady rise in the clubs success culminated in county championship titles in 2014 in U16, U14 and U13 age groups, and city league titles at U12 and U11 age groups. The performance of our younger age groups at blitzes suggests that the club will be competitive well into the future. The success of the club would not be possible without the support of the parents that make the trip to Gaultier every week. The club is grateful and mindful of the efforts of the parents especially as they are already giving the same support to various other clubs and Gaultier is very proud of the return it has been able to give to all its members and their families for their commitment and the huge attendance in Dunmore East last November at our club presentation night made all the hard work over the year worthwhile.
