We will also be collecting magazines and new or slightly used clothing for our veterans, as we participate in Delta Gamma Foundation’s Service for Sight: Joining Forces philanthropy. So take a break from your holiday shopping and catch up with your fellow DGs before the season gets too hectic. The party is December 6th from 1-4PM. An evite has been sent to members; please RSVP to the evite as this event will be catered. If you have not received the evite, please email Sylvee at
[email protected].

Get to Know a Board Member: Vanessa Kovachy Our fall newsletter highlights board member Vanessa Kovachy. Vanessa was initiated into Delta Gamma’s Zeta Phi chapter at Harvard University. She currently lives in Portola Valley with her husband. Vanessa has been part of the PADG board since she graduated from college in 2011 and moved to California. She currently works at the Stanford School of Medicine as a senior research assistant and is in her 2nd year of graduate school. In PADG, she has held the roles of vp Foundation (2011-2014) and vp programming (2014-present). She has also been co-Founders Day chair and Collumnae Chair. Currently, Vanessa holds the position of vp: programming, for which her main responsibilities include making sure we have plenty of fun, sisterhood-filled events in the year. Vanessa will be switching to vp Foundation where her new job will be to plan large events and fundraisers to raise money for Delta Gamma Foundation and local charities! Being part of the Palo Alto Delta Gamma board has meant friendship, acceptance, leadership, and community for Vanessa. When she first moved to California, Vanessa didn't know anybody aside from her now husband and his family. The first thing she did when she graduated was reach out to her local DG alumnae group! She loves having a social group outside of work and school, and something that ties her to her collegiate Delta Gamma experience. The ladies on the board have truly been an anchor through so many life transitions. Vanessa knows she can always count on them to have her back and cheer her on! Vanessa got certified as an open water SCUBA diver during her honeymoon in Fiji! She can't wait to go on more trips and advance in her SCUBA learning. Vanessa also loves Zumba, creating new craft cocktails, and reading all things Agatha Christie.

Dues Reminder Dues collection for the 2015-2016 year has recently gotten underway. If you have not reached fifty years since your initiation, you should have already received an email with instructions for paying your per capita dues and local alumnae dues through Member Planet or by check. The local dues are $26 with the option of contributing more if you would like to. Please note that local dues (which are paid to the Palo Alto Chapter) are different from per capita dues (which are paid directly to our Executive Offices in Columbus, Ohio). Of course, PADG dues can be waived when there are extenuating
circumstances. If you have any questions about per capita or local dues, please email Marilyn McKeen (vp: finance) at
[email protected]. Your dues and additional contributions to the Palo Alto Alumnae Chapter make a significant impact on local organizations serving the blind and visually impaired. Our alumnae chapter gives 10% of our total donation each fiscal year to the Delta Gamma Foundation for their support of organizations helping the blind and visually impaired.
"Sisterhood is the essence of all the wisdom of the ages, distilled into a single word. You cannot see sisterhood, neither can you hear it nor taste it. But you can feel it a hundred times a day. It is a pat on the back, a smile of encouragement. It's someone to share with, to celebrate your achievements." ~ Anonymous
