Mr Board’s Comments Phew! What a start to the year! As you know, we became an academy on the 1st September and became one of the founding members of the Equals Trust. The conversion process and the setting up of the trust has been a lot of work but we are already seeing some of the advantages of working closely with such an excellent group of schools. I expect these benefits to continue into the future and many of these will have a direct positive impact on the children at Tollerton. The children have all been busy and I have been very pleased to see how well they have all settled into their new classes. I would like to offer a warm welcome to Mrs Mays and Miss Bingham who have been doing a sterling job in Class 4 covering Mrs Kimbley’s final term of maternity leave. I would also like to welcome the new children and their families Class R: Amelia Alton, Oliver Armstrong, Alex Clark, Molly Cox, Elise Crabot, Evie Dalrymple, Tom Dawson, Eva Dewhurst, Harry Dunthorne, Ben Evans, Imogen Garrard, Amy Hall, Hayley Hall, Annabel Hood, Esme Liddington, Lily Mason, Oliver Moore, Harry O’Keeffe, Joshua Robinson, Johnnie Roland, Joseph Roland, Lilly Screaton, Eleanor Sharpe, Esme Shaw, Daisy Stenton, Isla Tillotson, Lucy Tillotson, Freddie Webb and Cienna Wilson. There was a terrifying scene on Friday when the school was invaded by a scary band of Vikings from Class 4. The class were visited by a Viking known as Hrothgar as part of their Vikings topic. He made quite an impression on them and they learned a great deal about the Vikings and their way of life. Our footballers (both boys and girls) have been in action in the annual Rushcliffe Tournaments. Although we didn’t win, the children played very well and with a great spirit that should stand us in good stead for the rest of the season. Thank you for your continued support with everything that we do.

Summer Holiday

School Productions Our annual school productions will follow a similar pattern as last year with Classes R, 1 and 2 and classes 5 and 6 doing their major performances at Christmas and Classes 3 and 4 doing theirs in the spring. It worked well last year with all the children getting their chance to shine! Pantomime Trip We will be doing our pantomime trip a little differently this year. Instead of Classes R, 1 and 2 going to the Playhouse to see the pantomime, we have arranged for a theatre group called ’West End in Schools’ to come in and perform Cinderella for the children in the school hall on the 20th December. Classes 3 and 4 will be going to the Playhouse on the 8th December. Letters about both of these performances will go out nearer the time. Harvest Festival Our Harvest Festival this year will be slightly different. The children in Class R and in the school choir will be performing and we will be inviting only the parents of those children involved to attend. The rest of the children will still be involved in the festival but they won’t be putting on a performance. Those of you who have attended our Harvest Festival in the past will recall how busy it gets and fire regulations mean we are no longer allowed to have such a large number of people in the hall and library. We will be collecting produce as normal which will be donated to local charities. Cancer Research Non-Uniform Day We have been asked by a village community group if we would hold a non-uniform day to support the Cancer Research campaign. This will take place on Friday 21st October. Children can wear their normal clothes in exchange for a donation which will all be given to the charity. £1 is the suggestion but you can donate any amount.
