Welcome to Hutt City Salvation Army. I am pleased that you are able to join with us today as we share together in fellowship, praise and worship. Today is 'Founder's Day' so I want share some thoughts around the subject of our 'DNA'. Some of you will be aware that I have an interest in 'Family Trees' and an off-shoot of this is how we are all different, partly because of our 'DNA,' partly because of our environment and partly by the way we respond to opportunities, life issues and challenges. Being in the Salvation Army, we also have a bit of DNA from our founders. One of his well known challenges was to 'go for souls and go for the worst.' Another started off, 'While women weep, I'll fight.' These become part of our DNA as a Church with a Mission. L et us explore together the part that we play in all this. ON 20 August 1912, General William Booth – Founder of The Salvation Army – was promoted to Glory. A century later, the Salvation Army is bigger, stronger and more far-reaching than ever. The General's legacy is The Salvation Army of today, his priceless gift to the poor and marginalised – a lasting tribute to the working of God in the life of an ordinary man who was able to do extraordinary things.

I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips. Psalm 34:1
