Alternate Blocks:

4. Sew [1] 3½” Background, [1] 3½” Fabric D and [1] 6½” Background strip together. Press to the darker fabric.

1. Sew [1] 3½” Fabric D strip and [1] 9½” Background strip together. Press to darker fabric.

6. Sew [1] 3½” Background and Fabric D square and [1] 3½”x6½” Background rectangle together. Press to the darker fabric. Should have 12 units total.

14. Layout [4] Step 9 A triangles and [1] 3½”x6½” Background rectangle. Sew together as shown. Press in arrow direction. Make 4.

7. Sew [1] Step 3 and 6 unit together. Should be 6½”x12½”. Make 12. 15. Sew [1] Step 9 A triangle to each end of [1] 3½”x12½” Background rectangle. Press to Background rectangle. Make 2. Fabric A triangles are a little larger than the rectangles.

8. Sew [2] Step 7 units together Should be 12½” square. Make 6.

Sashing: 16. Sew [2] Step 9 A triangles, [3] 3½”x12½” Background rectangles and [2] 3½” Fabric E squares together. Press to rectangles. Make 2.

Setting and Corner Triangles: 9. Cut [18] 5½” Fabric A squares diagonally in half corner-to-corner in both directions. You will not use two of these triangles.

17. Sew [2] Step 9 A triangles, [5] 3½”x12½” sashing rectangles and [4] 3½” Fabric E squares together. Press to sashing rectangles. Make 2.

10. Sew [1] Step 9 triangle to adjacent sides of [1] 3½” Background square. Press to triangles. Make 10. The Fabric A triangle will be a little larger than the square.

18. Sew [2] Step 9 A triangles, [6] 3½”x12½” Background rectangles and [5] 3½” Fabric E squares together. Press to rectangles. Make 1. Note the direction of the Step 9 triangles.

11. Sew [1] Step 9 triangle to [1] 3½”x6½” Background rectangle. Press to triangle. Make 10. The Fabric A triangle will be a little larger than the rectangle.

From Step 19 on, refer to diagram on page 3. Quilt Assembly: 19. Layout all [12] 12½” blocks as you like, the remaining [24] 3½”x12½” Background rectangles, [6] Step 8 alternate blocks, [10] Step 13 side setting triangles, [4] Step 14 corner triangles, [2] Step 15, 16 and 17 sashing units and [1] Step 18 sashing unit as shown. 20. In diagonal rows, sew the [24] 3½”x12½” Background rectangles to the [12] 12½” blocks. Press to rectangles. 21. Continue sewing the blocks and setting triangles together in diagonal rows excluding the upper right and lower left corner. 22. Sew rows together. Then sew upper right and lower left corner to quilt top. Next Step

Borders:

29. Measure quilt top from side raw edge to other side raw edge in middle of the quilt. From [2] Step 28 units, cut [2] borders this width. Sew [1] border to the top and bottom of quilt top. Press to border.

23. Sew [8] 1½” Fabric D strips together end-to-end. 24. Measure quilt top from top raw edge to bottom raw edge in middle of the quilt. From [2] Step 23 units, cut [2] borders this length. Sew [1] border to each side of quilt top. Press to border. 25. Measure quilt top from side raw edge to the other side raw edge in middle of the quilt. From remaining [2] Step 23 units, cut [2] borders this width. Sew [1] border to the top and bottom of quilt top. Press to border. 26. Sew [5] 4¾” Background strips together end-to-end. 27. Measure quilt top from top raw edge to bottom raw edge in middle of the quilt. From Step 26 units, cut [2] borders this length. Sew [1] border to each side of quilt top. Press to border. 28. Sew [2] 4¾” Background strips together end-to-end. Make 2.

Layer, Label, Quilt & Bind 30. Layer quilt top, batting and backing and quilt as desired. 31. Stitch the binding strips together end to end using diagonal seams. Fold this strip wrong sides together, lengthwise in half. Press. Stitch to front of quilt matching raw edges and mitering the corners. Press to binding. 32. Fold binding to quilt underside covering seam. Then stitch folded edge to quilt back. 33. Create label with name of quilt, your name, location, who for and date. Stitch to quilt back. ∞
