N orth Tower o f Paine, new route. In February 2002 John Rzeczycki an d I clim bed a new route that went to the n orth sum m it o f the N orth Tower in Torres del Paine Park. The route starts on
the right side o f the west face and shares the first pitch with what I think is El Caballo del Diablo (L loyd-Pritchard, 1992), then co n tin u es straig ht up dihedrals for 600' w here we crossed El Caballo del Diablo on a large ledge. We continued traversing tow ard the notch and sum m ited via the south face after nine o r ten pitches an d som e sim ul-clim bing. The route w ent all free except for a fall on the crux pitch. The pitch was freed at 5.11 by the second on to p rope. The first 500' were previously clim bed by a party from M ontana. R a lph F er r a r a ,
