NOTE 1: You may want to decide on your border fabrics after you have finished the Bargello top. We will discuss border fabric requirements during the first class.

PRIOR TO CLASS: Prior to class it is recommended you cut 4 strips (depending on desired size referenced in fabric requirements above) from each of your 17 prints as a start. Accuracy in cutting is very important! In class we will begin building and sewing the strip sets to start the process. Make two copies of the labels (select the appropriate size) provided in your pattern. This class is designed for learning the techniques to complete the quilt top.

Supplies:     

General sewing supplies, scissors (paper cutting and fabric cutting), pins, seam ripper, neutral sewing thread, etc. Rotary cutter with new blade, acrylic ruler (6 x 24), and cutting mat Sewing Machine in good working condition ¼” patchwork foot Iron and ironing pad (optional – may use the shop’s iron)

‘NORTHERN LIGHTS’ BARGELLO FABRIC COLOR GUIDE (Refer to color layout sheet in pattern for color placement)

Recommendations for Color Selection based on store sample: Your strip set is made up of light, medium and dark color values. To start with Fabric 9 is the lightest color value in my quilt top and Fabric 17 is the darkest in color value. Fabric 1 through fabric 9 will be dark to light (fabric 1 being not quite as dark as fabric 17). Then fabric 10 through 17 is light to medium darkest (fabric 10 being a little darker than fabric 9). Also, note that fabric 16 should be of a high contrast to fabric 17 (the darkest fabric). It is up to you how you want your bargello to look. You can place your colors any way you like. These are just recommendations based on my sample. You can also select a ‘focus’ fabric that appeals to you (make sure it is a multi-colored fabric and begin building your selections based on the ‘focus’ fabric pulling fabrics that compliment this main fabric). NOTE: As you paste your fabric samples in each square, be sure you can differentiate between fabrics and make sure you can read the numbers below each fabric.
