[email protected] northwestern triangular u The No. 19 University of Wisconsin women’s swimming and diving team earned two wins last weekend at the Northwestern Triangular. u The Badgers defeated Notre Dame (218-151) and overcame a one-point deficit after the second session to beat Northwestern (196-173). u Wisconsin improved to 5-1 on the season and is undefeated 3-0 in the Big Ten.
competition highlights u Hannah McClurg (San Diego, Calif.), Maggie Meyer (North Oaks, Minn.) Jackie Vavrek (West Chicago, Ill.) and Kelsey Gergen (Hastings, Minn.) won the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:33.56. The time was just .2 seconds off the season-best time of 1:33.36 and earned the foursome an NCAA “B” time. u McClurg and Meyer were joined by sophomore Rosie Morahan (London, England) and senior Katie ImhoffSmith (Waukesha, Wis.) in the 400yard medley relay. The Badgers once again claimed first place, finishing with a time of 3:46.72, which beat the season-best mark by over a full second. u In the 50-yard freestyle, Vavrek claimed her second victory of the night as she took the event in a NCAA “B” time of 22.91. Vavrek’s time was also season-best in the event. u Prior to helping the 400-yard medley relay team capture first, Morahan placed

second in the 200-yard IM. Her time of 2:05.46 was a personal-best and was the fastest time of the season for the team. u The Badgers also got a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Junior Jen Illescas (East Elmhurst, N.Y.) recorded her 11th first-place finish of the season as she won in an NCAA “B” time of 4:52.90. u Meyer, Morahan, Imhoff-Smith and Vavrek helped the Badgers claim first in the 200-yard medley relay. The team finished in a time of 1:43.90. u Meyer also recorded a win individually in the 100-yard backstroke. Her time of 56.15 was just .14 off of an NCAA “B” time. Meyer did however tie her own mark for the best time of the season on the team and the best of her career. The North Oaks, Minn. native later won the 200-yard backstroke (1:59.56), which met the NCAA “B”

standard time. u Wisconsin’s other victory on the day came in the 200-yard freestyle. Illescas notched her second first-place finish of the weekend as she finished with a time of 1:50.06. Her mark was good enough for an NCAA “B” time. Illescas later won the 200yard butterfly (1:59.54), which met another NCAA “B” time. u Libby Brooks (Oregon City, Ore.) was the top Wisconsin finisher in the 400yard IM as she took second place with a time of 4:24.35. Brooks’ mark was three seconds better than the previous best-time the team had recorded this year. u Imhoff-Smith placed second in the 100-yard butterfly for the Badgers. Her time of 56.28 was .01 seconds better than the previous season-best time, which she also held. u In the 800-yard freestyle relay, Illescas, McClurg, sophomore Gabby Maddalena (The Woodlands, Texas) and Meyer finished in a time of 7:24.18, to take second. The team’s finish was four seconds better than the previous season-best time in the event. u Morahan was the top Badger finisher in the 100-yard breaststroke. Her time of 1:05.51 was good for fourth place.
Diving u Freshman Ciara Rinaudo (Pheonix, Ariz.) led Wisconsin with her seventh place finish on the 1-meter board, finishing with a score of 234.20. u Jenny Hawkins (Eden Prairie, Minn.) placed eighth on the 3-meter board with 236.15 points.
next competition u Wisconsin returns to action next weekend at the Northwestern Triangular in Evanston, Ill. UW will compete against Notre Dame and host-Northwestern.
