The Queensland Water Directorate is holding the Western Queensland Taste Test Semi Final and Conference on 27th June 2013. Participants who attend will therefore be exposed to a broad range of information presented by their peers. The conference theme this year is "Public Works in the Long Paddock". This theme reflects a broad range of challenges and achievements of undertaking works on public infrastructure in the long paddock.

The Conference of the Central Queensland Branch of the Institute of Public Works Engineers of Australia features a well credentialed group of speakers addressing the theme “P ublic W orks in the Long P addock" . Topics to be presented include various issues challenging local government engineering personnel, Managers and Supervisors. An enjoyable social program supports the technical programme. Although there will be no formal partners program this year, accompanying persons to the Branch Conference will be invited to the Welcome Dinner on Thursday night to be held at the Cattlemen’s Bar & Grill, Longreach Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Partners will also be welcome to attend tours, and of course, the Conference Dinner on Friday night which is being held at the Qantas Founders Museum commencing at 6:15pm. Venues Welcome Dinner – Cattlemen’s Bar & Grill, Australian Stockman’s Hall of Fame. Buses will be available for pick up and drop-off from locations in Longreach (to be advised).
