Master Gardener Volunteer Meeting Minutes November 4, 2015 @ 10AM Present: Mary, Dennis, Ari, Robin, Nancy, Barbara, Danuta, Dayna, Colleen Minutes: Training and Training Announcements 11/13 – 9:30-3:30 - Invasive Species Conference – Greene County (Windham Mountain) (*CE hrs) - Composting! There were three speakers from Cornell- one from Cornell Waste Management Institute, one who talked about soil, and one that spoke about entomology and pests. Very informative. They felt it didn’t really need to be two days. o Suggested: discussion with Bill Cutler regarding options for municipal/community composting. o Local training for our Master Gardener Volunteers by Dennis, Nancy, and Dayna. o Subsidized compost bins at Plant Sale? Or other “composting kits” made of pallets and welded wire fencing. Education could happen here. o Outreach in schools…..question for 2016 Plan of work at the CCE level. o Some great resources for our use are coming from a regional grant! Dayna will print the powerpoint for a “composting binder”. Large trifolds are in the making for educational purposes. o Ari discussed Hugelkultur, a short history, how to make them, and how cool it is Master Gardener Program Guidelines: - Recommitment packet will be mailed next week for return by Dec. 31st, 2015. It was agreed that the meetings would be included in the total number of volunteer hours (as it was listed in addition to). To remain an Active Master Gardener Volunteer, one must commit to 20 hours of Community Service (including 4 meetings a year) and 6 hours of advanced training. There will be no “categories” once you have reached your initial 100 hour commitment (internship period). - Dayna discussed including “MGV Training” after each meeting or after as many as we can. She would like to have 4 morning meetings, 4 afternoon meetings, and 4 evening meetings to address availability of volunteers.
