Spring 2018

Theme- Fire Station Autumn 1 Last half term the children were moving around the classroom as firemen, pretending to put fires out so following the children’s interest so we have decided to turn the role-play area into a fire station. Over the holidays we arranged our fire station area. We then had a group talk time about the things we might see in a fire station and the things the children would like to make for our fire station. They have had some fantastic ideas and each week we will use these to develop the area more. Communication and Language During our theme this half term the children will develop their vocabulary by learning lots of new words. The children will then use the new words to engage in imaginary role play by building stories around toys and objects. Visit We are hoping to have a visit from the local fire service. The children will learn about basic fire safety, try special clothes on and ask the firemen any questions. We are sure your children will enjoy this! Phonics Last half term we introduced the older children to the new ‘Read Write Inc’ phonics programme. This is something the Lower Nursery children will work towards and in preparation for this, they are carrying out activities to build the speaking and listening skills which are so important in learning phonics. To help you as parents and carers to understand how we teach reading, we have arranged a curriculum evening on Wednesday 14th March to demonstrate and explain how you can support your child at home.

PSED The children have begun to form relationships with one another and they have started playing alongside each other in areas which interest them. This half term we are continuing to play alongside each other. With our new role play area the children may initiate play and encourage their friends to join in. . Physical Development The winter weather isn’t going to stop us in our outdoor learning! We will be encouraging the children to use the outdoor resources in creative ways. We will be using chalk to make giant frames and marks on the floor then incorporating equipment such as balls, beanbags, cones and dice

Forest Schools Forest schools will continue to take place on a TUESDAY and the first session this half term will be 07.03.18. Please bring the children to school dressed in their kit. If your child is staying for the afternoon they will need their uniform to change into afterwards. As the weather continues to be cold and wet, please ensure your child has old, warm clothes (no jeans), wellies and an old outdoor coat. We also ask if you could provide them with a hat, scarf and gloves. Our Christian Value this term is ‘Justice ’.
