October 5, 2016 Newsletter Dear Kingdom Bearers, Millie will be out of the office October 10 – 14.
Please review the enclosed report from the Nominating Committee. There will be a called Business Meeting on Sunday morning, October 23rd to vote on the committee’s recommendations. DAYCARE OUTREACH OPPORTUNITY If you would like to make a donation to help send fallen officer Tim Brackeen’s family to Disney world, you may place it in the offering plate in an envelope marked “Disney Fundraiser”. Checks can be made out to Westview Baptist Church, or you can take your donation to The Fidelity Bank on Lafayette St (next to the old police dept.) and ask for it to be placed in the “Brackeen Disney” account.
Last week we were challenged to dare to hope as Jeremiah did in Lamentations. He called the Lord to mind and he had hope. Remembering really is important in our lives. It is so easy to go through life just coasting along as if the status quo is something to be satisfied with each day. The reality is that there is so much more. Jesus called it the abundant life. Paul, while in a cold dungeon writes his second letter to Timothy and the Ephesian church. Paul challenges them to remember the risen Christ and power of the Word of God. He reflects on why he endures the suffering he is going through for their sake. Finally, Paul reminds them about how to live a life that reflects the attributes of God. This was important for Paul to convey to them and it is just as important for us today. I look forward as we “Remember…” on Sunday together in view of the abundant life: the life of the power of God, the glory of God, and the kingdom of God on earth as it is in heaven. “Now therefore says the Lord, turn to Me with all your heart.” Joel 2:12 The prophet Joel was a messenger of God’s Word to His people. The words above were a warning to avert God’s approaching wrath. Despite their rebellious state, God offers His people one more opportunity to return to Him in repentence. Have they been so focused on self-centered physical wants and needs that they have no interest in the things of God? What about our nation?
