On mission around the corner and around the world At the time of writing this article 5 young men from Terrace Pentecostal Assembly were making final preparations to leave on a mission to Thailand. Brett deHoog, Mitchell Grypstra, Jordan Lange, Abraham Lincoln, and Doug van der Meulen have been studying at Summit Pacific College in the Omega Challenge program in preparation for ministry in the local church and abroad. The past eight months have been a combination of classroom instruction, team development, and church ministry. The final phase of the program is a three week mission in Thailand working with marginalized people groups across the country.

Each of these young men have grown in their understanding of scriptures, in spiritual maturity, and in their ministry skills and gifting. Terrace Pentecostal Assembly carries a responsibility in this mission to Thailand though the majority of the congregation will not be physically traveling to a foreign country. These young adults go as representatives of Jesus Christ and of the local church. We must do our part in praying for the teams that are going to minister in Thailand. Further, as a heart for those that need Jesus is fostered through involvement in short term missions (even through prayer),

an awareness of our responsibility to those within our own context is developed. Each time we pray for someone on mission, we would do well to remember to pray for the local expression of mission as well. There are opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ each day. Keeping such a mindset will help us to see the local church as on mission around the corner and around the world.

Leadership developments at Terrace Pentecostal Assembly Following the Annual General Meeting of Terrace Pentecostal Assembly there was one position remaining open on the newly elected board. It then became the responsibility of the board to appoint a fifth board member to serve the balance of the year until the next election at the AGM of 2013. As per the constitution of TPA, a member in good standing with the qualifications of deacon is eligible for appointment. The board decided to appoint Mrs. Lorna Brown. Lorna has served in this capacity previously in a similar situation where one board member was needed. The board was glad to learn of Lorna’s acceptance of the appointment. Please pray for the board and the decisions that will be made over the course of the year. Further to establishing a full compliment

to the leadership table, the board has also been working to develop the Servants Council. A provision in the TPA Constitution that was adopted in February 2011 allowed for the establishment of a Servants Council. The Servants Council will initially be comprised of current board members and those that are currently involved in an oversight capacity of a ministry or ministries, are a member in good standing, and meet the Biblical qualifications of a deacon. Sixteen men and women have been appointed to the Servants Council which is scheduled to convene on Saturday, May 5th at 7:00 PM. Others may be appointed to the Servants Council at a later time depending on need. A member would remain part of the Servants Council until they are no longer in an active role as a ministry leader.

Spring renovation project underway A much needed upgrade to the flooring of the lower auditorium is well underway. The tattered carpet of the Student Chapel, Recreation Room, and Café of the student ministries section of the building was removed in mid-April by a team of young men from 100 Mile House.

The team was part of a discipleship training school out of the church in 100 Mile House that the Lange family has made their home church. The discipleship team contacted Terrace Pentecostal Assembly earlier in the year looking for

opportunities to serve the congregation in a tour across the Northwest. The board approved the removal of the carpet and installation of linoleum in the café and carpet tiles through the rest of the lower

auditorium. Part of the preparation of the floor for install included the removal of the old fireplace hearth from the days when the building was heated by a wood burning fireplace. The fireplace was donated to Lakelse Camp a few years ago. The project should be completed in the first week of May. Feel free to pop in and take a peek!

This Sunday the Outreach Lunch proceeds will go towards helping send students to Historymaker 2012. Each year there are a couple of students that would otherwise be unable to attend the annual youth conference because the cost of $300 plus meals. The Outreach Committee has sent students to Historymaker for the past number of years, seeing the value of helping our students get to a conference that emphasizes personal evangelism and values spiritual growth. Please give generously at the lunch on May 6th.

Terrace Churches Food Bank depends on donations from the community and local churches. The shelves of the food bank are typically full thanks to the generosity of the community of the citizens of Terrace, Thornhill, and surrounding areas.

Lakelse camp planning for expansion

TPA Leadership & Staff Senior Pastor: Lowell Holmquist

Lakelse camp has been expanding since it’s inauguration in the 40’s. What was first a few buildings situated close to Williams Creek has now developed into eight buildings spread over a significant area. The desire of the camp society has been to provide a camp facility that furthers the ministries of PAOC churches in the Northwest Section (Haida Gwaii to Burns Lake). The camp facilities not only serves PAOC churches, but is provided on a rental basis to a number of organizations in the northwest from churches to local service

groups to families doing reunions. In fact, the camp is regularly booked through the whole camping season (May through September). Renovations have begun on the Staff Lodge in order to make it available through the winter. This would allow small groups use of the camp throughout the year, increasing rental revenue and providing even more opportunities for ministry by the local church. Your support of Lakelse Pentecostal Camp through giving and prayer is greatly appreciated.
