onDemand Vendor Training Introduction to onDemand Who we are… Lionbridge OnDemand is a one-stop ecommerce portal that enables users across global organizations to obtain translation services and complete a wide variety of translation projects via an online self-service portal. Apart from translations we also offer other types of services: e.g. cultural adaptation, transcription, transcreation. Our processes are highly automated and standardized. The onDemand Operating Model is built upon the use of our extensive network of partner agencies and freelance translators. The work performed by our external network is coordinated and monitored by inhouse onDemand staff, and goes through rigorous quality assurance steps for accuracy by internal resources and external partners qualified and retained for this type of work.

Whom we are looking for… In onDemand we would like to cooperate with vendors:  Providing good quality  Delivering jobs on time  Experienced in one or more of the following subject matters: marketing, IT, technical, general, legal, life science  Experienced in the use of CAT tools,  With an active subscription of Translation Worspace (TW) and experienced in the use of TMS or willing to go through the training process to get to know how to use these tools We offer many different services for our clients. That is why we need different kinds of vendors in our pool of resources: translators, editors, proofreaders, transcreators, DTP specialists etc. With regards to turnaround time (TAT) – the majority of projcets that we receive are orders with TAT requirements from 3 to 5 days, but there is a growing market for rush translations, meaning 1-2 days.

How do our challenges look like… What are the challenges of running such business like onDemand? Firstly, we can’t predict the volume or mix of work we receive from clients in a certain month. Moreover, our clients have high quality expectations and expect short TATs. We see the benefits of long and healthy partnerships to adequately face these challenges. This is why we continuously strive to create an ever friendlier working environment for our partners, meaning for you.

Tasks to Perform

There are many different tasks available in onDemand. The majority of available tasks are translations. However, there are other quite popular tasks which will be introduced in the following. → Translation Translation is a core step in the localization process. Translation should be carried out via the TM/CAT tool specified in this document, with a good attention to: accuracy of translation, language conventions (i.e. grammar, spelling), compliance with defined and generally-accepted terminology and style. → Editing What is Translation Editing in onDemand? Many Lionbridge onDemand customers submit texts and require that the final translations are written in an appealing, natural style. A single round of translation, specifically with short turnaround times, does not allow for it. If a text to be translated is of high visibility, the clients have the options to choose Premium Translation service. Premium Translation is a service in which a text is first translated by a general translator, and then reviewed and polished stylistically by an Editor who makes sure the translation is free of any potential mistranslations, spelling or grammar issues and that it is not too literal. What is your task as an Editor? Review the translation against the source to make sure that:  there are no language mistakes and that…  the translation is not too literal. The final translation must read well and sound natural. Lastly…  customer specific instructions, if any, are to be fully applied. NOTE: When editing translations, there is no need for including word plays, creative writing or idiomatic expressions. Such output is only relevant for Transcreation services (also offered by onDemand), but not for translations. Your task is to make sure the translation is natural-sounding and not too literal. What is the average productivity of Translation Editing? The average productivity is 800 words/hour. Please note that normal productivity for Editing in Lionbridge is 1000 words/hour but due to extra attention which needs to be given to style of translation, you are

allowed to edit less words within one hour. POs will be issued based on the above productivity. If, however, you notice that the translation you are editing is of poor quality and requires many changes, please proceed as required and let us know afterwards how many hours you spent on the editing task. Your PO will be adjusted accordingly. → MT Post-Editing Post-Editing of machine translation (MT) output means that a text was in a first step machine translated and then, in a second step, read and edited by a human. The quality level required in MT Post-Editing is that the translation text is close to that of human translation / publishable quality. The average productivity of MT PE is 3000 words per day. Post-editing ensures that the translation:  is comprehensible (i.e. an end user perfectly understands the content of the message),  is accurate (i.e. it communicates the same meaning as the source text),  is stylistically fine, though the style may not be as good as that achieved by a native-speaker human translator, and it…  has normal syntax as well as correct grammar and punctuation. → Proofreading In this task a linguist is checking the target text only for:    

typographical errors, incorrect hyphenation and… residual typos, as well as… improper formatting affecting the language quality.

→ Language Quality Inspection (LQI) For translators: Please note that an LQI may be performed on your translation. LQI schedules and details will be communicated separately. Lionbridge LQIs are done via our LQI online system accessible through the Lionbridge Service Partners portal. The LQI feedback will be available in your LQI To DO Lists\Translator area on SPP. LQI corrections need to be reviewed and implemented GLOBALLY throughout all relevant files.

Query management during the project Due to short TATs for most of the projects, we do not expect to answer any linguistic queries. If there are no references provided by the client, translators are expected to use their best judgment when dealing with their translations. If the TAT is longer than one business day (i.e. if it is not a “rushed” translation), the translator may have a query. For any linguistic queries, please send an email to [email protected].

Deliverables to Lionbridge For our standard translation work the following two files are always expected as standard deliverables:  Unclean/bilingual files in XLZ (Xliff Editor) format after LTB corrections These files should be checked in directly into TMS. TMS will then send the notification to the PM that job has been completed.  Annotated LTB Reports File names should not be changed unless otherwise instructed. Apart from this standard set of deliverables, there is a chance a project might require additional files (or even a different file than the usual XLZ). Please read the task instructions carefully to ensure your set of deliverables is complete and accurate. NOTE: Please remember to deliver both the files and the commented report generated on the right configuration. In case any of these are missing, or the report is either not annotated or generated on the wrong configuration, our Language Leads are obliged to use the Fail step in TMS in order to get back to the translator.

Thank you for your work on this account!
