Bowling Green Sports Center/Open Air Sand Volleyball Rules and Guidelines 2017 Team Line-up   

 

Co-ed 4’s – minimum of 1 male/1 female Co-ed 6’s – minimum of 4 players, 1 female if 2-3 males, 2 females if 4 males o For 6’s, 3 guys/3 girls (cannot have 3 guys or 3 girls in a row) All players, including subs must be on the roster/agree to the waiver. Subs can only commit to one roster for playoffs, and must play a minimum of one match during the regular season in order to be eligible for playoffs. See League Manager if help is needed. Players must be 18 or older, or 16 and older if playing with a parental guardian. Fees are due before the 3rd week of play. The $150 deposit is due at registration. o If issue with deposit, contact Bryan to discuss.

Schedules 

 

If your team is unable to play at your scheduled time, you may schedule a make-up if a) the other team agrees to it b) you are able to confirm a time that works with the league a minimum of 1 week before the make-up date. All other scenarios will result in a forfeit. Time starts at your scheduled hour. There is a 5-minute warm-up and a 5-minute grace period before a forfeit. There will be a volleyball manager on duty to enforce games starting and ending on time. o The volleyball manager is there to a) start games on time b) announce 15/5/1 minute warnings. If you have any issues with the league, you may report it to Deanna and Bryan (contact information at the end). Each team gets one 1-minute timeouts each game. When the volleyball manager calls last serve, there are no exceptions to the rule unless there is a tie game, at which point the next point will win.

Scoring 

  

Teams will play 3 games with rally scoring. Play to 21, win by 2, cap at 23. Once the volleyball manager calls last serve, the score at the end of that point will determine the winner. If after that point there is a tie, one last point will be played to determine the winner. o If 15 minute warning has been called before the 3rd game begins, no timeouts will be called (Both team captains should verify before the 3rd game starts). Please report scores to League Manager in between games. Places will be determined by wins. If there is a tie, head-to-head will be used. Standings and schedules will be posted weekly in case on deck and on the website o http://openair.bracketpal.com

Official      

All games are self-reffed. If a disagreement cannot be resolved, then replay. o If two teams cannot work together to resolve disputes, see League Manager to oversee the game. Net serves and jump serves are legal. Players are not allowed to attack a ball that has not crossed over the ‘plain’ of the net. Players can set the serve, but not block or attack it. Players do not have to rotate on first serve. Other courts are off-limits (whether people are on it or not!) – If you step into the other courts’ in-bounds area the other team is awarded the point.

     

The block does not count as a touch. The ball must be contacted cleanly and not held, lifted, pushed or carried. Most body parts, including a foot, are legal to use to get the ball up. No contact with the net, unless the ball forces it. A player is allowed to go under the net as long as no interference with the other (no contact). The Wilson Ball will be used during matches. o If it goes outside the fence, notify Director, they’ll replace and retrieve!

Rules Unique to 4’s      

No open-handed tips. If ball is set over, player must be square to where the ball travels and must be square before contact. Can set the serve/first-contact. Hands are called like indoor rules, no side-spin, give warning in necessary but not stringent like 2’s. Must rotate servers, but can start anywhere on the court. Everyone is eligible to attack front row.

Rainouts:   

Games will be cancelled if there is lightning/thunder/extreme rainfall. Players on roster will receive email, if possible with one hour notice. We will also update website. o If team does not check email, contact us to set up text notifications. Rainouts will be scheduled at the end of the session, unless open spots are available for make-up.

House Rules          

Team captains are responsible for the team’s actions. Unsportsmanlike conduct towards staff or other teams will not be tolerated. Please report any issues Bryan or the League Manager on duty that night. Only players should be on the court during league play. Rotating players need to stand in back corner well outside of court, and can only sub in and out at the serving position. No children allowed on courts at any time! Children must remain in sand play area or on deck – It is for their safety! No pets allowed on deck, courts, or sand area. Beer and water are welcome on the courts, but not empty cups. Please clean up! If you are the last match of the night, please bring volleyballs to the volleyball manager after the match is over. A ball will be available to play pick-up games. Players can enjoy 3 free games of bowling (must pay for shoes at the VIP rate of $2.00 or bring their own) on the night of their league. Smoking (no cigars) is allowed at the back row tables, but not the front row closest to the courts. If you have league-related questions, contact League Manager Michael Flowers at [email protected]. To report any issues, concerns, or comments to Bryan McDermand at [email protected].

Thanks, and we look forward to a great season!
